Default Differential carrier

Hello,

Was wondering if anyone could help me out with a question. I heard a clicking noise by my left rear tire area, took it to the shop and they said the rear Differential carrier is cracked or bad, part number 12471371 on a 2000 Trans Am Automatic. Does anyone know if I should get an upgraded part or is the GM part good enough? I looked online and found 2 aftermarket parts by EATON and Auburn. 542040 Auburn Limited Slip Differential , GM 10 Bolt 7.5", 28 Spline and 9599-010 Eaton Posi Limited Slip Differential, GM 10 Bolt 7.5", 28 Spline. I have a cam swap upgrade, new transmission, oil pump upgrade, billet timing set upgrade, lsx intake, kooks headers, bola exhaust. Any additional comments or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

JJT

Even though you have an A4, with your mods I'd highly recommend dumping the 7.5" 10-bolt rear and upgrade to a S60 or 9". These are weak rears designed to work behind 6-cyl S10 pickups and anemic 3rd gen F-bod V6s & V8s. GM should've upgraded this to an 8.5" rear for the 4th gens, but didn't. Unless you are strapped for cash, I wouldn't sink a dime into the 7.5" 10-bolt.

Thanks for the info, Johnny.

Take Johnny’s advice and update your rear if you can. Don’t dump any money into the stock 10 bolt like I did only to have to update a year later.

Read your thread on the Chipped Pinion. Which one of those S60''s did you get from MWC? There is the PRSF05, 10 and 15. What are the differences?

I got the PRSF05 (S-Trac, 35-spline axles). The PRSF10 comes w/ a spool, and the PRSF15 comes w/ spool & 40-spline axles. The PRSF05 is really the only one appropriate for a street driven car.

I can't really tell you which is "best", but the TA I used is the "93-02 F-BODY EXTREME TUNNEL MOUNT TORQUE ARM", The driveshaft I used is one of the Strange chrome-moly shafts (cut to my dimensions) w/ an upgraded T56 yoke, I just can't remember which one specifically I used (there are so many to choose from!).

What gear ratio did you go with and why? I think you stated 4.10 in your thread. Hows the S60 working now any problems? I am looking to order mine soon with the same torque arm you got.

My mistake. I just saw it in your signature and other threads you replied to.
