how much horsepower will a stock 10 bolt hold before it snaps

Almost too may factors to list. An A4 will last longer. Also depends if you launch hard, and with sticky tires. Speedshifting won't help either.

I have read that even a stock motor has crapped the pumpkin. If I had to put a number on this I would say 350rwhp and up.

But this question is very broad. I say save up the $ and get a 12 bolt or 9".

well look at my sig.... with 400rwhp and 375rwtq i still have the stock 10 bolt and stock clutch, and 4:10 gears....

id say its all in how you drive your car..... me im not to hard on mine....
though id like to get some DR and a better clutch and after that im not sure how long it would last...... but like i said its all in how hard you beat on your car!

this is the problem i'm putting an ls6 in my 98 v6 firebird its pretty much stock except for headers. but don't know if i should keep my v6 rear end till it snaps, buy and ls1 rear end, or by a 12 bolt rear end?

on my 6th one.... 1 axle, one posi unit (broken spider gears), one pinion head.. that was on heads and cam. Now with the new motor I have broken the gears, wait uh.. shatterd the gears twice.. lol. Do it myself so not too much money but is quit annoying.. Get a 12 bolt and dont try to save the ten bolt.

I almost stuck the money into mine last weekend. Thick gear, install kit and TA cover. Poped the rearend cover and we looked in there and it looks like a baby rearend. Thought no way...........! Sold all that to a friend and going with a 12 bolt in the spring. Wish I could find an decent 8.8...

you might want to try SLP's 12 bolt...that is if you want a posi...otherwise mayub moser does his for there own

SLP has a 12 bolt Eaton posi 33 spline with 8.875" axles...not sure if everyone does that but it cought my attention

i know of people spraying a 200 shot on the stock 10 bolt, no problem. automatics are more forgiving than m6 though....just change the fluid often, and change the gears once a year, and you should be fine.

It's like a ticking time bomb with these rears. That's why I'm saving up for a 12 bolt.

I 've got 28 spline axles, Eaton Posi, 4.10 gears (2nd set), LPW cover and brace kit, amd all Spohn suspension parts in the back. I broke the 1st set of gears after about 60 -70 passes at the track with Nitto 555R's that were worn out. Dont know what I launch at exactly but its probably about 4K. Im gettin 1.655-1.670 60' . With the money that I put into this I could have gotten the 12 bolt but I put it together over time.
