Been running 4.56's in my Moser on 28" slicks. No problem. Pulled the slicks off for the 26" winter radials and BIG difference. Car leaves a light w/out the chatter associated w/an aggressive clutch. You'll come out of first gear quick. 6th gear is actually usable. Forget traction on street radials w/that gear. You'll tach a bit higher....gas mileage will suffer marginally, but.... a fun gear and livable IMO.

Thanx for the info but with a Moser that would meen that you have 12 bolt my question was about a 10 bolt i just found it kinda wierd that the ZL1 cars would have 456's in a 10 bolt after reading so much about 410's making a 10 bolt weaker than a stock gear when a ZL1 car would be making more power than a stocker

I did it. I ordered 4.56 gears for my ten bolt from jegs. I am not at low elevation, though. I am at 4000ft and average DA is about 6900 to 7000, so i run slower than most people on the coast. But still I have a friend that owns a machine shop and has experience in dragsters. We could have just installed them with no problem but to make sure that everything went well, he custom made the shims that go on the side of the carrier. the o-ring shims. he custom made to the thousands of an inch to adjust the ring and pinion depth, etc.,so they fit perfect. It was bad *** watching them at work.I drive my car 30 miles every day not to include school. So I recommend getting a the best install possible by buying custom shims to adjust the carrier to the ring and pinion. If its too complecated I belive they can be ordered to but I'm not sure.

Since the berger cars come with 4.56's I would guess Gm sells a kit probably to fit them on a tenbolt. the only difference with me is that my friend custom made them and would grind them down a little more if needed.

When I had 4.10's I would notice that I did not have much at high rpm or at the end of the track. Awesome 2nd gear though. When i put 4.56's I noticed a gain at the end of the track. I have my drivetrain setup for 600+ lift cam that I might do in the future.I still can't say I am 100% satisfied because My shift points are still out of wack. I have only gotten the shift points right twice because of torque or I don't know. this happened when I started racing with the air filter off. Then I went back next week with a desreened MAF and I was hitting the rev limiter on 3rd gear hard. So I still need to test and tune and keep running it to get max effort. Plus my programmer always gave me trouble with the shift points form the start. But highway driving is a hassle. You lower the life of the engine and transmision. So i put a cooler for the tranny and put pure B&m trick flow oil and did a shift kit. I just need maybe a engine oil cooler or a better oil pump. Everything has been fine. I did was not happy with the gains from 4.10's to 4.56's however I did gain a little.Plus if I ever cam it which might be withing six months I will want 4.56's But I am automatic..56's on a M6 would be the Bomb.

If I were putting 4.56's again I would make sure the installer new what he was doing, make sure your shift points are set correctly, and calibrated right.
But its possible. with sacrifice

That's correct
You ask anyone in El paso about the dark blue ss and they will know who I am. $.56's seem too much for an A4. But what you done realize is the ending ratio. with 4.10's I would never go into 4th gear. Now I go into 4th gear so its usable

No way would I ever put a 4.56 on a T56, LS1 street car and certainly not on an A4 car. IMO, 4.11 is as low as I would go and even then you will need drag radials.

I run with hoosier slicks. I'm still stock. only boltons. Plus i will be planning a 6000 + lift cam. Iam doing 12.9's in elpaso Tx. that would probably be low 12's at low elevation. There is no street racing here. Cops really crack down on that and send you to jail. Only track racing. For races on the roll then yes I would say don't go past 3.73's. But for 1/4 I would not go lower.
