4.10's Slow on Street??
I have a 98 camaro M6 with a pretty good size cam and Ive asked some people if gears will slow me down if I'm not racing from a stop (Racing on the highway) and they said "yes it will slow you down if you go from a roll, gears are only good from out of the hole" is there any truth to this?? I am running 3.42's right now wouldnt it just help with 4.10's???? any input please, Going to buy gears soon...

The only way 4.10s are going to slow you down is if you have a top speed contest, 'cause you'll run out of gear before someone else with a 3.42 rear.
I call BS on that other logic.

It will slow you down if it is more gear than you need, or if you can hook them up. 4.10 with a short tire might be too much depending on what kind of revs you are turning.

Your car will accellerate faster but then you also have to consider that you have to shift more often and quicker depending on the length of the race, I put in 4.10s myself and I do love em but like others have said without the right tire traction can be an issue, My first gear is useless on anything but slicks, 2nd gear I can get to hook on drag radials from a roll but have some issue with spinning when trying to bang it from 1st to 2nd.
Its a really good mod and it also makes 5th gear really nice but you have to be aware of the race length and make sure you don' f up any shifts. Then again you can put on slicks and not worry about it after a short burnout

The GM gears are everywhere now though, and usually only cost about $20-40 more. You wont get them in a GM box, but they will have a GM number stamped in them. The Motive's are a very good product, but spend the extra cash, you wont regret it.
