Default Please help with rearend noise

I bought an 01 WS6 with @45K miles a couple months ago. It has a loud roaring noise that I thought was the tires, but i'm beginning to think its the rearend. It sounds like a 4x4 with mud tires, its not a whinning sound, its a deep roar. Could someone tell me what they think the problem may be?

Thanks

My 2000 SS does the same think and it has 49k miles on it. I bought it with 44k miles on it but it just started doing it about 800 miles ago. Would also like to know what this could be! Does yours do it 10 times louder if you put it in neutral going down the road?

Sounds like a bearing noise maybe. Have someone check it quick before it damages anything else, if it has not already.

This is what I was thinking. I don't think it gets any louder when put in neutral, but i'm not sure. BTW, i'm almost sure it doesn't have aftermarket gears. I guess I need to take it somewhere to get it checked out!

Welcome to the club. Every LS1 owner I've talked to has the same problem. My 98 Z has 40k on it and has the same problem, but for me I can here a crunch, crunch at 5mph and at 60 its a whinning roar. You would be very lucky to have just a bearing problem. Spending any money on this 10 bolt S-10 rear end is a waste of money IMO. I'm saving up for a Strange 12 bolt. A permanant fix.

Well, FWIW, I found out my noise was the carrier. I can't decide what I want to do if I'm going to spend money for another carrier for this POS or spend the money for the 12 bolt.

Default Wom Wom WOm

mine makes a noise I think is similar to what you guys are describing. Mine sounds more like "wom wom wom" and speeds up the faster I go. Im also getting a DEEP metalic grinding noise when im at about 3-5 MPH rolling to a stop with little braking. Anybody have any suggestions to what these might be?

Yup, it's probably the carrier. That's exactly how mind sounded.

Now I just need to know what the carrier is, what it does, will it get worse and break other parts if not fixed soon, how much the part is, and the labor it would cost if someone installed it for me..........thats a long list. Thanks for the reply.....

Well, to solve my problem I bought a used stock rear end from Tennessee Auto for about $450 with shipping. This turned out to be a REDICULOUS idea!!! I drained the old oil out and put new oil and LS additive, put it in today, took it for a drive and GUESS WHAT!?!?!? Sounds like a bunch of @#%&#@* chunks of metal being thrown around in this rear end when I let off the gas. I dont know what to do! I dont have the money for a better rear end. Guess I will be renting a &^%$ car to get to school and work.
