Which brand gears?
Which brand gears? I'm going to buy 3.73 gears to replace my stock 2.73's. Richmond for $193 from summit or GM parts i've found them for $250. Gears are gears right? what is better on the GM parts that they're way more?

Buy the gears from SLP! They buy the gears directly from the OEM manufacturer. The rear ends on these cars are the same ones that are in S-10 pickups!!! 
Anyway, the trucks use eigther 3.73 or 4.10 from the factory, so they are perfect for a stock 10 bolt. The main difference between OEM and aftermarket is the angle the gears are cut with. After market gears are a BIT stronger, but OEM gears are quieter. Get SLP gears for $200 plus all the other junk to make the swap smooth. Good luck!

You can get the GM gears cheaper than that from randy's or national drivetrain. I would go with the OEM gears, the price difference is small, and there is no strength difference. They are made from the same material. The AAM gears does use a different style cut, but it doesnt affect stength or noise, they have always been quiet. There are less passes made when cutitng the gears, so the pattern will look different.

The strength is almost identical. The USA gears are actually reboxed genuine GM gears. The italian gears are the best aftermarket ones they have. The rest are pretty much equal (india, etc.....). They all use the same 8620 steel, that even goes for Richmond, etc. Some of the steel may be cleaner/purer, etc, but the same alloy and hardness.

I also have that 2.73 gear in my crappy 10bolt. What exactly is needed to do the swap? I was under the impression I had to but a 3 series carrier to get 3.73's .. The carrier for 2.73 is a 2 series right? Either way if this can be done can someone list everything needed ?
