Default 2.73 gear confirmation ?

My car had a few mods b4 I got it and the dealer didn't know or didn't admit to know about them I turn 2500 RPM at 70 mph does this confirm 2.73 rear end I just thought if some one did some motor and suspension mods they might have done some gear changes, door sticker says 2.73 this is a 2000 A4

When I had 2.73's, is was ~2,000rpm at 74mph. I would say you have 3.73's.

In my old 94Z with 3.73 it was at 2500rpm at 65mph. The best way to go about this is. Lift the diff. up and rotate both rear tires even 1 complet turn wile counting the rotation on drive shaft. Mark that drive shaft real good so you can see it. Tape, marker, whatever you can see with. If your shaft rotates about 3.5 times that would mean you have 3.42 gears. good luck

at 70mph, you should be around 1600rpm with 2.73
at 80mph, you should be at pretty much exactly 2000rpm, with 2.73

you do not have 2.73 ...

Those are 3.73's 2.73's would be around 1800 or so at 70.

I have 3.42's and i'm turning 2500 around 80mph.

Thanks guys, I figured 2500 rpm's was kind of high for a "high geared car" at 70 mph I'll check out the link above and do the rotation count when I have a chance.

i swear is everyone a dumbass. If you ahve an a4, if you are in 3rd gear going 75mph on a calibrated speedo, the RPM will read your gear ratio, i.e. 2730 rpm in 3rd @ 75mph. This if for the A4's.

Put-er in 3rd on the freeway and go 75mph.

Takes the guesswork out of it, really.

look on the sticker on your door if there is a GU5 then you have 3.73 gears and if you have GU2 then you have the 2.73 gears. thats if the rear end is still stock.

well u can check to see if your MPH is off by driving down the highway and watching the mile marker to see if your car is counting the correct miles, that will tell you if the car has an aftermarket gear, or if its dead on, it has been tuned.

There's a good gear chart versus tire diameter on "Gears Are Us"

Similar approach to above -- 55 mph at 1:1 final drive
