3.73 vs 3.42's in M6
I was wondering what difference in acceleration and top speed I will see if I go from the stock 3.42's to a 3.73 set up in my 02 M6. I know acceleration will go up and top speed will lower but will the change in either be very noticeable? I was thinking of 4.10 too but Id rather stick with something that will maintain reasonable gas milage. What are your thoughts?

I would keep the stock gears or go 4.10's. I just put a 12 bolt in with 3.73's granted the gear is better than the 3.42's but not by much. I was a little disapointed with the 3.73's. The 3.73's are better than stock especially with the cam, but not exactly what I expected.
I am getting 4.10's put in next week so I'll be able to have a good comparison.

Go with the 4:10's. 3.42 to 3.73 is o-k but if your gonna invest $$ into getting gears i'd go for the bigger increase. just to be warned kiss any traction you had before goodbye, and with a 10bolt it will be even more easy to break with the lower gearing. however you gas milage shouldn't drop more then 1 or 2 mpg. -Jim

if you want performance go with 4.10s. i just put 3.73s in my m6 t/a and i lost 3 mph and 4 tenths in the 1/4 mile. 4.10s are the best gear but the break easily because i have broken 2 sets of them. no real difference in gas mileage unless you are doing alot of city stop and go driving. i wish i had the 4.10s back in my car but for now i will have to live with the 3.73s

I'm assuming you lost the 3mph and 4 tenths when you went from 4.10s down to 3.73s, correct?
