Hi
I have an A4 with 273s and I am planning an upgrade. Considering 323, 342 and 373. I am a little worried about top end/gas with the 373s as I do a daily highway commute. How do you find the 373s? Is the engin reving alot when driving at higher speeds? Any comments would be appreicated?

youll rev slightly higher in OD.alot higher in D.gas consumption will increase depending on how hard you drive your car.i noticed a big difference.

Do they whine now? It's been recommended to break them in about 200-250 miles to get a good wear pattern developed to prevent whine.

I did the same thing, put the gears in, go out it in the street and see how they work....my car is strictly for drag racing and sees little street time. When I do drive it on the street I don't notice any whine.....but then again I can't hear them over my motor....

Not any more than any normal set of richmonds. I get a little whur sound at about 60mph or so but ive been told its harmonics. No actual whine just the whur, but u can bearly hear it u have to turn the radio down and listen for it.

I do alot of freeway driving, and lost only 3MPG going from 3.23 to 3.73.

The proper way to break in rearend gears is to vary speeds between 45 & 60 MPH for the first 100 miles, not driving the vehicle more than 25 min at a time. Have at least a 30 min cool down period.

For the next 400 miles vary speeds not exceeding 70 MPH, with a 30 min cool down period.

At 500 miles drain and refill differential, and your good for 50K.

During the initial break in period, the ring and pinion gears are meshing together, and will run hotter, and shed small pieces of metal (more like silt). If you do not break in the gears properly you have the chance of searing the gears, or warping them due to excessive heat.
