Default scammed diff fluid change?

I got my diff fluid changed on Saturday. Since I've always been a little overly paranoid about my car, I watched the guy for a little while and didn't see him do anything but grease the bearings. He might have changed the fluid and I just didnt see it, or he flat out skipped it to save cash or what not. Is there anyway to check the texture of the fluid, or do I have to dump it all out?

Unless you have an aftermarket diff cover with a drain plug, he would have to remove the stock one to let the fluid out. Get under the rear and see if the bolts have any tool marks where he turned the bolts.

Yeah, if you wanted to check the fluid with the stock cover, you'd have to pull the cover and let all the fluid out. With a drain plug on an aftermarket cover, you'd be able to just let a little of the fluid out to check. Fresh fluid should be really clear, while old dirty fluid will be more opaque and darker in color.

couldn't you just put your finger in the fill hole on the side of the diff and see? If its dirty then obviously he didn't do his job.

Yeah, you can unscrew it - with the car level the fluid should be even with the hole, sounds like they didn't replace the fluid, just topped it off.

He may have used a fluid evac. so be sure it was not changed, do not go only on the cover not being removed, before you jump on their *** if they charged you for changing it.
