Default What 10 bolt is in a GN????

I got the new issue of GMHTMag and there was an article of a bunch of GN's and T-Types running 9's and 10's on 10 bolts?!?!? This can't be the same 10 bolts that are in our cars can it?

I believe they are regular 8.5" 10 bolts. However, I have heard guys saying not to cut up GN rear because they are fairly rare and worth alittle money. You can get an 8.5" out of a late 70s early 80s F-body, reuse your axle tubes and fabricate a TA mount. I've been really thinking of doing this myself, I would need to have a driveshaft made though. We have a member making over 700rwhp through a 8.5" in his 78 camaro, all he had to do was truss the tubes.

They are 8.5's with 28 spline axles. They would need upgrades to run those times, but they ae pretty tough once you replace the axles and posi.

did only the GN's get that rear or did the regals have it too?

Only the Turbo Buicks got them as far as mid size cars. They were also in 2nd gen camaros, 70's mid size cars, full size cars and trucks. Some late S10's had them with disc brakes also.

they was also found in the olds hurst 442 also i think like 1988 or 87 not all of them come posi jsut like not all GN come with posi too

I had heard that before, but never seen one. I also heard that the Pontiac GP 2+2 had them also, but I never checked. The Buicks were the only ones that made any real power with the others having 307's and 305's. Such nice looking cars, just lacking in the power departement.

the g-body was a great looking car

the GN got an 8.5 and the GNX had a fully braced 8.5 that was a nice setup

I think the GNX got a similar suspension to the f-body, with the torque arm also.

drum brakes hold better.disc has better fade res. but to footbrake those turbo cars the drums were better.More surface area.

V6/5speed 4x4 S10/S15s and 5 speed Blazers had the 8.5". Shocked the hell out of me when I was underneath my '03 Blazer for the first time and saw an 8.5" out back. Too bad I already had a 12 bolt on the T/A. If I had the skills I would've loved to fab up the 8.5" to fit the T/A and just swap the 7.5 to the Blazer. Even had the same 3.42 ratio.

for the s-trucks reg cab 2wd & 4wd 5speed got the 8.5" too along with all ZR2 (auto or stick) optioned trucks

Not all the V6/5 speed trucks though. I have had 2, and both only had a 7.6. Definetly all the ZR2's, a lot of the ZQ8's with the V6/manual, and a lot of 4x4 blazers. The discs are nice also.

Yep. And the sad part is they were both V8 conversions- I could have used the 8.5!!! I dont think there is any rhyme or reason for it, aside from all the ZR2's having them. It seems to be hit or miss on blazers also.
