Default Gear whine, but not normal whine..get in here!

ok guys, 4.10's, new in the car, didn't make a sound the 1st night they were in, i drove it abouit 10 miles, let it cool off over the wknd...drove it sunday, whine was there, got progressively worse the longer i drove it. The whine is strongest at about 40+ under part throttle to light throttle, may be there under wot, but hard to tell over the exhaust...its is very prevelant though, not normal gear whine..i can let off the gas, put the car in neutral and it doesn't really make the noise, has a lil whine to it, but u have to listen for it...checked the rear today, we found a good bit of metal on the plug, and were able to put 11-13 ounces of more fluid in...is it the rear, or is it something else is what im getting at..im gonna take the cover off tmrw and see whats up..i just wanting some help here...Mike chime in when ya can..thanks

alright...

the first night the car did not make any noise when we went out to log some data. Ben called up the next day talking about how bad the whine was. tonight we put her up in the air and checked the fluid in the rear out, besides being hot as ****, which it is hot here anyway so that may be the reason the rear was so hot, there was a lot of metal shavings. i dont know if its normal for the new gears to wear in and shave a little metal off or not but its bad enough the fluid should be changed. like he said we put in about 11-13 oz of brand new fluid and went for a spin. going slow its not so bad but once he went in 5th and the car got some load on the rear from accel or decel, the whine was there. sounds about like the 03 cobra blowers, almost identical. if he put it in neutral the whine still sounded faint but was nothing like when it wasin gear and going. both in gear and neutral were with the clutch pedal out.

ive never gotten in a rear before so i dont have much ideas but from what i can think would be some bearing or something whining, maybe when the pinion gets loaded, or the gears arent aligned too well. the guy he went to said he has been doing this for 30 years and hasnt had problems like this. so maybe its a set of mismatched gears? who knows. if you guys need any other details maybe between the 2 of us we can tell something helpful, any help would be great

hey guys thanks for all the help. we checked out what you guys said and...o wait

he had it tore out and found it was the posi that led to the gears going bad that lead to the noise and i think bearings messing up. figured i would put this for someone who may search or try to post without getting any advice to help.

sounds like a bad install that caused the all your problems.if pinion depth and backlash were not set right ie to tight or to loose that will cause problems.also what brand gears uesd did he use old bearings or new ones.
if he loaded the pinion bearing to tight that would be bad also.somthing was to tight if the fluid was hot like that.there is a lot of little things that must be checked in order for your install to be relible and quiet.like checking pinion bearing load in in/lb it differs for new and old bearings just stuff like that.good luck with it.

i think it was all new stuff that he bought for his car. he said the guy tht had been doing this has done so for 30 years and has a great reputation with flawless gear installs. i did question the install but i would think if this guy was that good it wouldnt be the install. plus what i dont get is the car was DEAD quiet the frist night we went out in it.
