Seems to me there is no happy medium.

As for the noise in my 12 bolt it's quiet. BUT it's never been on a slick or really stick tire. Once it goes that route this season they all get louder. As for racing worry free- I was happy until yesterday to break on the street driving around like a Grandma in town normal driving.

But all in all I'd say I am considering how many burnouts track passes it has, I think I am good to go from here out.

I hope, cuz I am going racing 200 miles away from home in Dec.

I have a moser also and when I installed it I had to set the gears up because they had low flank contact when I first installed it. I thought it should have been better assembled, but it is best to ensure it is adjusted when you install any axle assembly.

Does Moser assemble the rear ends for free? Or do they charge?

I wish these units were either better built, or better assembled.

My Strange 12 Bolt is loud on the highways. When I run next to a car with my window down, I can hear the R&P howl deflecting off the car next to me.

No sticky tires either, but I had some wheelhops that may have made 'em that freakin loud.

I'm still wondering if the loudness will translate into a failure soon.

Moser rear-ends come assembled, but the axles are shipped loose. The center cover is already installed, and does not need to be removed to install the axles below. You need to remove your old axles, unbolt the brake backing plates and reinstall the backing plates on the new Moser rear-end. Instructions come with the rear-end for the procedure. The axles bearings also need to be pressed on to the axles. Bob

So all of the loose bolts we found after one popped out and chewed up my reluctor (ABS) ring was definately Moser's fault. You'd think for a racing application this **** would be 'tight' or within specifications.

Nice, $2200 to buy a center chunk with loose bolts.

I think anyone buying a Moser rear should re-check the bolts along with your ring and pinion on your unit.

If I were to do it, Id get a ford 9" with a spool, build it myself and be done with it. The 12bolts dont seem any more reliable than 10bolts.

My Man ended up going to a spool with his, that is why I got lucky the day I broke because I had his ring to use and he welded it on to mine.

Reliable? I'd say so but you can say "LEMON" or a retard who assembled mine!

A spool in a 12 bolt might hold up.

The key is to go with a spool (or maybe a locker).

I’ve been very happy with my Strange 12-bolt. Installation was a breeze. I have about 250 passes on it in the low to mid 12 second range (1.67 second 60 ft.) on ET Streets with no problems. The 4.10 gears are nearly as quiet as stock and definitely quieter than the 3.73 Richmond gears I had in the factory 10-bolt before I replaced it.

I bought mine through tbyrne.com (an ls1tech.com sponsor) on a good sale. When it arrived the crate was beat up and I was concerned about potential shipping damage. Both tbyrne and Strange provided outstanding customer service and even made arrangements to have it checked for internal damage by a local shop (at no charge to me) before I installed it.

I've had my Moser 12 for about 8 months now, I pound on it at the track regularly on ET Streets and havent noticed any whine. I did check all measurements and torque on ALL bolts before the unit went into my car.

The same idea goes for crate motors. If you don't inspect it and see exactly what everything is at and how it is assembled, then you are paying way too much money to be way too ignorant of your parts.

I have a 12 bolt and am starting to hate the POS. When I got it (moser) it whinned worse than my son. Which ended up breaking the ring gear due to improper setup. The posi unit blew up after that. Then after the next setup found that I had twisted the splines on one axle(33 spline). Then of course 2 more R/P blew up. And this is only been in my car for 2 years and has about 5k miles on it and about 20-25 track passes. The 12 bolt just cant handle any HP or maybe its me and my driving style.

It seems like most 12-bolt owners reporting in here are 12-second cars, a few 11-second cars, and 1 or 2 are 10-second cars. Can we hear from some 8-second or 9-second cars on the same question?

Of course, your answers would be based on the same things, i.e., gear size installed ... DR's versus slicks vs street tires.

Or did you guys/gals go an entirely different route than the 12-bolt rear.

My 12 bolt is loud at some speeds, but I absolutely love it! The car is more solid on corners and just launches damn hard with my Mcleod twin Disk. Loud=Fast

Moser 12-Bolt here. Pretty quiet. A little noise on decel, but barerly audible, and only at freeway speeds. I Installed it after my axle broke in my 10-bolt on Nittos. Since then my torque arm and driveshaft have snapped in half, but the rear is holding up to 5K clutch dumps on ET Streets leaving on the hose. I'm happy with mine.

Default My Strange Sucks Too...

At first the gears were set up soooo poorly; the whine was so friggin loud over my GMMG and the radio - I couldn't think. After I broke it in we took a 900 mile, round-trip vacation. The ABS INOP, ASR OFF were coming on and off completely randomly, vibrations in the car, very low ginding sounds. Sounded like complete crap. The mechanic opened it up and said the gears had been set improperly - very improperly. While it was sitting in the garage it was leaking from three places: where the DS connects, the cover plate, and one of the axles. Oil and grease were everywhere. Strange agreed to send new gears, seals, etc. It doesn't seem to leak anymore and the gear whine has disappeared except on decel or when coasting. ABS INOP and ASR OFF lights come on above 70mph, found out a sensor was jacked up. Have yet to replace it. This was an extremely slow and aggravating process...like 8 months and counting of back and forth, "maybe it's this, check this check that..."
