Default Quick question on footbraking a TP4400

Background. I have a TP-E4400. I had to send it back to Yank after I did the stroker because it was flashing to like 5400.

Now, at the track, I can only footbrake it up to like 2200 rpms before I really have to stand on the brakes, I can barely hold the car. I still 60 fted pretty good, I cut a 1.51 and then spun and still cut a 1.53 and a 1.54. Thoughts?

Have you tried any other launch techniques? I tried a few different techniques when I had a TH350 and TP4600, and it was producing the best 60' when I launched from right around 2,800 RPM. Have you tried a few passes at 1,200-1,500 just to see what it nets? Also, maybe the extreme converters are different, but 2,200 sounds low for having to really STAND on the brakes. What's the absolute highest that the converter will footbrake stall on slicks? Hell, I can go higher than 2,200 with my Vig 3200. Maybe Patrick will make his way in.

At 2200 the car becomes very hard to hold. It lurched. I don't think I can hold it up to 3K.

On my Stock Internal car it launch best (60ft) coming out at 2000-2800. I've tried going up to around 3000-3800 but at the higher RPM's it would push the front tires through the lights

Sounds like your effective stall may have dropped to around 3600 - 3800. I can hold 2500 on my 4000 stall before it starts getting really difficult.

I'd try hammering it from 800 - 1000rpm. That worked when I had a ST3500 since it was a tighter converter. I'd also try from around 2000 rpm.

I'll try different launch rpms next time. A 1.51 with a 3600-3800 is not that bad but it explains why my car is consistently cutting 1.51-1.55's.

John, Even though you have that torque monster stroker motor, it sounds to me that your converter is slightly tight. I would like to think if you could raise the rpm's to 2500-2800 without pushing and allow some flash from there, you should definately pick up some 60ft and et. I think you wouldn't lose too much driveability if you raised it abit.

I could take some more stall...

I'm guessing I could hit a 1.48-1.49 based on my recent 1.51, but I doubt I can do better than that with my current combo.

BTW, what do you flash to and what rpm do you hold on the upshift?

Using my footbrake comparison of a 346 motor to estimate stall may be more prone to error due to your extra cubes generating more low end torque. your true stall could be higher, but you are limited in your ability to use it w/o a transbrake.

Just curious, how's the mph been running? 120 seems a bit low in the good weather for a big motor.

Well, car went 11.35@120mph at BG with a messed up converter on 28"s on a 1.63.

Went 11.15@120.30mph 1.53 back December, then 11.120.99mph hitting the rev on 1-2 and 2-3.

Since then added a bigger intank.

Went on 1/28/02:

11.25@118.68 / 1.51
11.27@118.76 / 1.55
11.21@119.73 / 1.53
11.20@119.91 / 1.54

Into a headwind, but it should IMO do 123mph at 3600 raceweight into a headwind.

Col shifts at 6800-6900, only difference is he has 600 lbs lighter, has a 112 lsa, more compression. Cams are similar. He also has LS6 heads. He told me to shift at 6600/6600. Right now it's 6100/6200.

I am shooting for 10.75@126mph at 3500 raceweight. I am at 3625 now.

John, that low of a shift point is defiantely hurting you by maybe 4-5 tenths. It does need to be raised if you want to see that mph go up. 6600-6700 should be about right. 6k/6100 seems very low to me with as much cam as you are running. Try 400-500 more stall and shifts at 6600-6700 and you might surprise the hell out of yourself on what it runs.

Sorry I went 11.25@120.99 hitting the rev limiter on 1-2 and 2-3 back on 12/9/01.

I'm trying to get LS1 Edit since my shift points have never been right on the car in the last couple of years.
