Default How much HP gain with CF driveshaft?

How much HP would I gain by going to a Carbon Fiber Driveshaft with my setup? I am putting down some power now with my new setup and wasn't sure how much HP I would gain if I spent the money for a CF driveshaft.

Would it be worth a few RWHP?

I haven't tried it, but I also have heard it's worth a couple. I don't think I've seen anyone say 10.

Dan,

I wouldn't waste the money on one personally. That mod is for the dyno queens anyway. Spend the money on getting a custom one built to with stand your nice power number's. I don't think I've seen that mod dyno over 8rwhp, and for the money which is ridiculous you could have a house! Nice number's by the way, I am hoping to hit something similar in the spring after all my hard work is done....

Don't know about on the dyno. In the 1/4 it will depend largely on how many times you turn it before the finish line. You stand to gain more if you have 4.56 gears and you're running 130 MPH than if you have 3.23 gears and you're running 106.

Moving to drivetrain....

You calling me a queen? Seriously, several of the better racers on this forum have CF driveshafts - ain't just for "queens."

There are three reasons to have a CF driveshaft:

1) They are the lighest of all the driveshafts. Other mods have more bang for the buck, but this one is important once you start really getting up there.
2) They are good for 900 RWTQ !!
3) There is a substantial cut in drivetrain vibration with these = smoother ride.

The cons:
1) Cost

Common misconception: It has been stated a number of times that CF driveshafts are problematic in that they can unravel if nicked too much. This is no longer really a concern, though it was a quite valid concern when these first came out. The new onces have a wrapping on them that eliminates the unravelling problem if nicked. They will still unravel if legitimately broken, which is a nice safety feature for the botton of your car.

You'll gain nothing. I dyno-tested this on my '98 T/A with the 383 cid, and I saw an additional 2 RWHP after I swapped them out. I contribute that to normal dyno variances, so don't expect anything. Being an M6 with some really nice power and a built rearend, I'd have one custom-built at Denny's. It won't be the lightest but it'll definitely be the strongest.

I went with the carbon fiber not because of the power that it will make(I had a stock steel shaft)but because of the safety. The fact that it will never come through my floor board and it will never need to be aligned again because it doesnt twist and also it wont tear up my car if it does go is some of the reasons why I bought it.Everyone says dont get because it costs to much and doesnt make any power well its not always about power I like to feel safe when I am blasting down the quarter mile. Then there are those that say get a safety loop.Thats not going always going to help because it all depends on where the shaft breaks of whats going to get broken or beat up on the car.Like someone else said notice some of the fastest are running this shaft. It is true its expensive but well worth it to me because its about you and your cars safety and not just horsepower. You wouldnt buy a ferrari and leave it outside would you?Same thing with a car I know thats an extreme cenario but you want to protect your investment.
