I'm arguing w/ my friend who is going to has these tires (26x11.5x16 ET Streets) on his 16x8 rims.....i keep telling him he isn't getting full contact patch running a tire that wide on a 16 inch rims....this comes from the same guy who puts 315/35/17 tires on a 17x9 rim.
He doesn't understand what cupping is...can someone explain it to me??? I can't seem to make him understand.

I know most Manufacturers want you to run a rim +/-1" the width of the tread and they're the people I listen to the most

verbs, lots of guys have run the 26x11.5x16's on the 16x8 rims successfully. But on the other hand, I've been told recently that for 26x10x15 Hoosier slicks, the 10" rims are better than the 8" due to cupping issues.
To answer your original question, you mentioned 26x11.5x16 slicks. Did you mean ET Streets, cause I don't think they make slicks in that size. If he's using ET Streets, he'll be ok with the 16x8's, but a wider rim wouldn't hurt either.

But those have a tread width of 8.3" so you're close enough The 26x11.5-16 ET Streets have a width of 9.7, That's on the outside for me

Same as Ragtop99.
I have 26x11.5x16's on my 16x8 rim.
I personally won't take it past 19 PSI myself... too balloonish on top end.

ET Streets are measured differently than ET Drags. They Streets are measured sidewall to sidewall, not just tread-width. A 11.5" ET Street isn't really 11.5" of tread. It's actually almost an inch narrower than a 10.5" ET Drag.
To answer your question, I've run 26x11.5x16 ET Streets on a pair of 16x8 salad-shooters, and they fit almost perfect. No cupping.

I have a set of 26-11.0-16 ET Drags on my stock 16x8's and they work fine.
Later.

I run the 11.5" ET Streets. From what I have been told as long as I keep the PSI above 14 or so, I am fine....
