Pinion seal replacement,,,,, Had dealership replace my seal while it was under warranty but obviously they did not do it right. It already leaks again. Guess I will replace it myself. I have an inch-lbs wrench but need to know what the bolt size on the pinion is?

Re: Pinion seal replacement,,,,, I think you might have to take your pinion out to do that. And that nut is torqued to a good 250ft-lbs or more. You'll need an impact. Here is my complete gear install write up. Pinion seal replacemet is included. It shouldn't be so bad for you since you're just taking out and putting back the same gears. No adjustments necessary.

Re: Pinion seal replacement,,,,, You do not have to remove your pinion. These seals constantly weep. I've had them replaced by my mechanic, and by dealer under warranty. They will weep again very soon in my experience. If its not bad enough to see on the driveway , leave it alone IMO

I had the pinion seal replaced twice, within a month it seeps again. Never enough to drip on to the pavement, so I don't even bother anymore. Change the diff fluid once a summer and you'll be fine.

Re: Pinion seal replacement,,,,, FYI, Pulled the seal and the spring is not even on it. They evidently poped it off during the install. Making an educated guess, I would think the spring would help hold pressure on the seal. The lips of the seal don't seem to be damaged. So much for warranty work. <img src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" border="0">
