Detroit Locker??
How noisy is a locker really? I hear the clicking is loud, but some say it isnt too bad. Anyone have a sound clip of one from in the car or would be willing to make one? my exhaust is pretty loud itself so I would imagine the clicking wouldnt be that bad. Also how is the streetability of the locker, is it good for regular street use? I plan on a 9" soon and just want to do it one time only, since the locker is stronger, i may want one instead of the posi.

Depends on your tolerance for clicking. They are okay, and I don't mind them. Why don't you look at the Detriot TrueTrac instead. They are a quiet worm gear design and they also take a lot of abuse

How much power can a true trac take from a high HP M6 doing high RPM launches? I have heard they are strong but dont they only come 31 spline? I was thinking 33 spline just to be extra safe.

I've got the Detroit Locker and every time I hear it click, which is not all that frequently, I say to myself I'm glad I did it right the first time because it will take anything and everything that I throw at it.;

Bad thing about the locker is when it pops loose momentarily, usually when pulling out into traffic, or across in front of traffic. But then, I'm running one in my Jeep on 33" tires and flexy suspension. I do have a friend who had a locker in his '84 T/A, and it gave no hint of its presence at all untill you wanted to sling the @$$ end around in front of you.

I had one that was aweful loud too. Sounded like someone rapping on a metal bucket each time you went around corner. People did stare, but with a "what the hell's wrong with your car" look on there faces. I promptly put a TrueTrac in mine.

I've got a 31 spline Detroit Soft Locker and if you guys think it's loud you must be a bunch of pansys. I get some clicking but nothing of the magnitude you are talking about. Remember the more you mod a car the less street friendly it is.

It'd lock and unlock without notice, as FlyinZ said, it was VERY loud, and the fact you can break them (MANY people have). The rotating mass is insane when comparing the locker to an aluminum spool. The installer said the spool looked like a VERY nice piece and it was only an ebay special.

I got tired of replacing gears and posi units plus it got damn expensive. I went with a 9" with a Detroit Locker because I know it will hold anything I can throw at it. It's perfectly streetable and unlike a spool doesn't drag the inside tire through a turn. It does click when making slow, tight turns but it started off fairly loud and is getting quiter as it gets more miles on it. I'll take a clicking rearend for the strength and reliability any day.
