Default Will this TRANSMISSION JACK WORK??

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=39178

Looking for something that will make it easier to remove the transmission by myself . The car is on jack stands, not a lift, and from the ground to the bottom of the tranny is 18". This is the only one I could find that would fit under the car. Is this one to small or will it work? Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Justin

I have found that the tranny really doesn't weigh all that much drained. I don't know about autos but the T56 was pretty lightweight. When on jackstands I just lay on my back, set it on my chest, and hoist it up and down with my measly arms.

I wish it was.. or I wish I was strong enough to hold the tranny up long enought to put it in place.... I might could if I could get it high enough off the ground...

I use the transmission adapter from summit works with a floor jack. No problems at all.

OK, this is ghetto, but it was free and worked well three weeks ago.

My son made a frame based on a sheet of 1/2" plywood. Used 1"x2" strips to frame the pan (of course this is an A4) outline on the top and the top of my floor jack on the bottom. With both of us steadying the tranny when it was free, this worked very well.

The benefit was that it added virtually no height over that of my rolling floor jack. That helped. When the tranny was near the floor we used pipe front/back under to lift off the jack and place on a pan on the floor.

Anyway, it was free and worked well, but did require two sets of able hands.

Yeah, I have the same one and have had my m6 out with it twice, no problems at all, except for maybe not having my car high enough to get it out from under the car. I just lowered it and then tilted the trans off of the jack moved it out of the way that way.

Dave, If you are talkin about the harbor freight one then yes, JNorris and I have used it several times between us to remove our A4's. I originally bought just an adapter also from Harbor Freight but it was too tall when fitted to my floor jack to go under the car while it was on jack stands.

Yes, I was talking about that Harbor Freight unit. I'm going to order it. Thanks for posting.
