rear end died..
My camaro went in to the chevy dealership for a choppy sound coming from the rear differential. I just found out that the axle is pitted (?) along with various other components. It's going to need a ring gear pinion, axle bearings, front and rear bearings, and side bearings for a whopping $2500.
Yay.
I've only had the car for a couple months and haven't ragged on it at all. It's only 5 years, 55k miles old. Ugh I don't need this ***** right now.
I guess it's time to start saving up for a 9 inch..
. Couldn't tell from your post if you are going to get it fixed but you might as well bite the bullet and not pay the same amount for the dealer to fix it when you can get a 12 bolt or 9" for the same price.Good luck!
$2500 is absurd. Get an aftermarket ring & pinion (~$200) also a master install kit including axle bearings ($100) take it to a performance shop to install it ($300) and then drive away with a better gear ratio and a 'new' rear end.

Where can I find used 10 bolts, by the way? I might need to look into this in the future if this happens again.
