Default Rear problem

I have a noise coming from the rear end thats more predominate on the passenger side that sounds like brakes grinding. The noise speeds up with the speed of the car coasting or giving gas. It isn't too loud yet but I'm not ready to buy a new rear either so I need to take care of this 10 bolt for a while. The brakes are fine and not rubbing and the car still acts normal. With all of that said I (not the smartest rear-end guy) believe it sounds like an axle bearing to me but I wanted some opinions before I go get my hands dirty or fork over loads of $$$$ for a mechanic.

This noise is so faint that the radio has to be off to even hear it. Its not a clunk sound just a consistent grind like a bad rotor. The sound or pitch doesn't change around curves. I really didn't think it called for a new rear.

Exact same thing is happening in mine. The car seems to stop making the noise when I swerve hard to the right to take a sharp right turn due to the weight being off of that wheel. I was told it was 300-400 bucks to replace the bearings.

Well if you don't want to buy a new rear then just drive with your radio on. When it gets louder, turn the radio up. When it breaks, don't say we didn't warn you.

Mine did the EXACT same thing. At first, I ignored it. It got louder, I kept ignoring it. Finally, it was so loud that it made my *** pucker everytime I heard it. By then it was to late.

Surely this noise that has been going on for about 2 weeks and is not getting any louder and is almost unnoticable can be fixed for less than 2k for a new rear. I'm going to get a new rear end probably a year and a half down the road. I'm not backing the 10 bolt but bearings and gears can be replaced. I'm not the kind of guy who just turns the radio up to ignore a noise. I actually have been rolling around with it off to listen to what it does and if its getting worse. But thanks for thinking that.

Try taking to a rear end specialist, or even GM, and have a mechanic drive it around the block. They'd be able to tell you what it was better than we would be able to over the net. I'm sure they wouldn't charge you either.

However, I'd def. take it to a few shops so you can make sure one's not just misquoting you to make some $$$

I'm in a small town I may not have but one qualified mechanic around here that I know of but I'm going to pay him a visit Monday or Tuesday. I know he's pretty good and more than reasonable on labor rates so I might just throw money away and rebuild this silly thing. He'll do it for about $200 labor plus whatever the cost of the parts I'm putting in it. He said he can change the gears while he's at it so I might get those too. I hate to put money in this rear I don't even want but I need it to get me from point A to point B on a regular basis and like I said earlier I want I new rearend, like the new Dana, but I have to at least wait till next year.
