Default Rear End went out on my 95 camaro today- NEED HELP!!!

its been a pretty shitty week. just bought a 95 camaro 5 days ago. and today on the freeway at 50mph i heard a loud thump and seconds later bad grinding until i pulled my car off to the side. got out and looked , only to find a nickle sized hole in the rear pumpkin smoking and a little bit of oil leaking out of it. the 2 shops ive taked to said i will need a new rear end....anywhere from 1500 to 4000 bucks...1500 is fine but i want something beefy

what should i do? i have money but dont want to pay out the ***. i can gte someone to install it cheap..someone who knows what they are doing. so what rear end should i go with? this would be for daily driving and occasional track use. the car has 400hp right now. so i want something that will hold the power no problem.

any suggestions will help. what should i do and what rear should i go with?

should i get it rebuilt with some beefier parts or go with a new one

If it's got a hole in the case you need another one.

You could get a bone stock posi rear maybe with 3.42's from a junkyard, I pay $250 for them. And then upgrade that.
$1500 isn't going to buy you a 9 inch or 12 bolt.

I'll have a 3chnl abs 10bolt rear 342 gear stock rear available in a couple weeks if you are interested. Direct bolt on. Where are you located?

if you dont want to worry about it ever again i would say go with a Ford 9" or a Dana 60. Now if you have an automatic you could get by with a 12 bolt. But if your a M6 you will definately need bigger than a 12 bolt. I wouldn't even waste my money on another 10bolt if you have the funds.

would it be a good idea to have the 10 bolt rebuilt and beef it up a little. it might save some money...but i dunno if that would be a good thing later on

Too bad you are all the way up there. I have both 3.42 zexel Torsen 10 bolt and a 3.73 HD posi 12 bolt.

I wish there was an 'in between' rear. I have a near stock 2002 SS with an M6 it sure as hell doesn't need a dana 60, or even a 9 inch or 12 bolt. I wish someone made an 8.5 GM for it. I don't like the looks of the torque arm mount on the ford 8.8's for f bodies. Something under $2000.
I've run 11's with a big block and an 8.5 with about $800 into it, seven years now and no problems, if someone would just make one for an f body I might get one.

Not true.
There are plenty of M6 cars with 12-bolts behind them doing just fine.
You must be realistic about what you want to do with your car. Is this your daily driver? Or a race car? I would go to the bone yard and get another 10-bolt and give it a proper rebuild and it.
I'm not trying to insult you, but an aftermarket 12-bolt, Ford 9' or S60 rear might end up costing more than another used 95 camaro.

Very true, didn't even think about that one. LT1 cars these days can be had for ~$3000. Your benefit is that you have an auto. A 10 bolt or beef'd up 10 bolt can survive behind an auto way longer than an M6. I believe GM Muscle was running his 10 bolt into the 9s but don't hold me to it. Another 10 bolt should do you fine for awhile but start saving cause once you go for more power you WILL eventually have to go with an expensive aftermarket rear. I'd be willing to ship my 10 bolt to you from TX. Just let me know.

Not one in good shape, and that doesn't necessarily mean that it isn't worth it. I spent the cash on a Strange 12-bolt for my 95, and I would do it again. Id rather spend the 2300 on a rearend and have my car still and have it beefed up than have to get a shitty 95 and start all over.
