Yank builds a 200R4 that they call a "4L70". I haven't heard of any of them holding up.
What are your plans? Street? Strip? HP level?
There are a lot of options besides the 200R4.

my plans are to have 427 iron block with my ati procharger on it. right now im making 510 at the wheel with only 5 psi of boost. on the new motor i want to run 12 psi which should do me about 700 rwhp. the car is driven daily but will see lots of track use.

There is a place out in cali that can build you a 200-4R with a brake and all the special made components that will hold up to a 9 second car for about $3000
check out the transmission board at www.turbobuick.com and you'll find the link there

Try giving Chuck Johnson (630-820-9294)at FLP a call. He should be able to give you some thoughts on what is necessary and available at those horsepower levels.
He builds and has built just about everything.

I think you would be better off going with a TH400 or TH350, thats some serious power you will be putting out... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

That would be my suggestion as well. If you're driving it on the street, you'll still want a lock up converter though.

3 months ago we did a 6 speed to a4 swap in a 2000 camaro ss.
the tranny.. a yank 4l70 aka 2004r
first off the car is completely operatable now but the tranny isn't really a yank built tranny any more!
more importantly if interested in buying this tranny from yank ask about his uses of "not so high performance" parts when it comes to clutch packs and bands. maybe he will build it to spec for you, and use better parts..
on this particular tranny from yank a seal was installed backwards which consequently caused the 2-3 clutch packs to heat up drastcially and burned them up 1 mile down the road??
anyhow a few trips to the best gn tranny builder in the state its completely operatable now and is very consistant and problems have been extremely minimal since every inch of the tranny has been checked over by our tranny shop..
it isn't a bad chioce of transmissions IF DONE RIGHT.. it should hold everything you really want to through at it...
all the stories i have heard of failure are due to poor build specifications and faulty parts..
also keep in mind these trannies do not come from YANK themselves yank owns/has a tranny builder who builds these trannies for him and Mike puts his YANK name on them...
IN NO WAY IS THE A FLAME, JUST POSTING OUR EXPERIENCES WITH THIS PARTICULAR TRANNY!

I understand that the lockup versions of the TH350-TH400's are estremely expensive. One person here in town had one built with a transbrake and a lockup. It cost him $4500.00!!!!!!

200r4s are pretty good transmissions as long a they are built well, probuilt or pmac do good work. Depends on your power levels as long as your in the 400-500 rhwp range the 4l60e is ok. Above that might as well go to th400 and gear vendors overdrive unit.

Re: Anyone with 2004R Tranny in their Ls1 car???
Over 550+ hp's I would go with a TH350 built tranny with all the goodies internally. Soak's up less hp then the TH400 and it weigh's less also and can be built to hols as much or more than the th400...

Re: Anyone with 2004R Tranny in their Ls1 car???
I have Yanks 4L70 tranny. I have had it for a while and it has been perfect for me. No problems at all. I would suggest going with a full manual version, it is so much better than the auto. It is really the way to go if you want more than the 4L60e but want the OD.

My 200R is working ok now after Nick had it rebulit properly. Held 119mph passes so far without problems. They can hold 9's when built right. I would also recommend a manual valvebody.
