Default Why is my 9" like this?

I have been back and forth from getting my 9" truetrac w/ 4.11 looked at and nothing has changed. My 9" makes terrible clunky noises and the whine is almost ear piercing at certain rpms. I've been told by several recognizeable mechanics that if a gear whines like that there is a problem. Even though moser has a warning about gear noise is small passenger cars i can't believe it's anything like this. At this point i honestly wouldnt even bring anyone into my car i feel so embarresed.

I have read a couple post of people saying how quite there 9" is and how its just as quite as the stock 10 bolt. w/ my experience i can not agree with any of that b/c it is noisey to the point of annoyance.

Why is mine so F'd up?

Who did the install for you?

Tick Performance in Mt. Airy, NC ordered and installed mine - it is seriously as quiet as my 10 bolt was. I never hear a PEEP out of it. I've got 4.11s and the Truetrac as well.

Are you running the aluminum or the iron center section?

A little local shop here in palm bay, florida. I mean it's just the pumpkin and the axles, the guys done it 100 times before. It's an iron section. When i read stories of quiet 9 " that are quieter then stock and don't have howling gear noise i know somethings wrong with my piece.

definatly wasn't setup correctly i assume. Scott @ Driveline Solutions put mine together and it honestly is just a quiet if not quieter then my 3.73's were in my 10 bolt.

i also have the TrueTrac with 3.89 gears and it's a solid piece of machinery! i can't say anything bad about it...

my 3.90's have a small whine but the spool is noisy. Then again, with spintec's you don't here it too bad anyway unless I bolt on the taipipes to the mufflers.

Just a thought, but are you sure you have enough additive? The 9" takes more than a regular 7.5"....

You need to have the gears adjusted to reduce the whine. If you can't get a better pattern, then you need a new gear set. Not sure about your clunking issues.

The Truetrac doesn't require an additive, as the additive is for the clutch style units, such as the Eatons. Bob

I just talked to an Eaton rep. and he recomended adding in limited slip additive in with the preloaded units. So for further instalations make sure you get either the GM or Ford additive, the Ford part number is M-19546-A and I'll look around for the GM number.

My 9" makes zero noise and I have the Moser 9" with the Tru Trac and 4.11's. A local performance shop here in Baltimore set it up for me and it's been no complaints since.

Thats weird, I had a 35spline gundrilled, alum center section, spool and 390s and didnt have any whine at all.

though i was pushing a 408 through 3" duals, so i might not have heard it.....
but the previous owners of the rearend never complained either.

i've got 35splines, spool, 3.89's, alu. chunk in mine (housing and axles are moser, entire 3rd member is strange) it doesn't make any noise. its all with how it was "set up" IMO, if its done right they shouldn't make much if any noise no matter what ratio.

Yeah, but after a dozen drag launches pulling/popping the wheels off the ground, are they still quiet then?

35 spline al. center moser's setup= noisy after first track day
new gears and setup locally few track days and full slicks still quiet as a mouse other than the locker ratching

definetly look into that route from what it sounds like . if it doenst have to many miles on it it may be saveable and just set up correctlly

It is typical of the Aluminum Center Section to need a re-setup after a few heat cycles.

The Iron Center should not need to be re-set up.
