cluck from rear end
alright people i have a 96 A4 Z28, and when im just rolling at idle (in drive, no brakes or gas) i can hear and feel the rear end clunking, it sounds pretty horrible
i remember my 90 mustang gt did the exact same thing, but did it even worse ( every time it would clunk the car would shake side to side, felt like it would fall apart at any moment)
just wondering if the diff. is toast, or what
i can take the cover off tomorrow and take some pics if you think that would help

Have you climbed under the car and checked the obvious things.
Transmission bushing, torque arm bolts, sway bar ends, etc.
I'd rule out all of those via visual inspection, unless you *know* the noise is coming from inside the diff.
If so, pull the cover and inspect.

If you have anything loose, or torn bushings tighten them up, and replace the bushings.
That's the first thing to check.
If you don't know what lower control arms, a torque arm, or sway bars look like then you can search on the net, and get someone who knows their way around cars to inspect those things first.
If you were referring ot not knowing what the inside of the diff looks like, the pictures above are a good shot of what you don't want to see.
Also searching ont he net for ring and pinion gears, and posi units should show you some images.
If you click on the "2000 TA" link under my banner I have pictures of ring gears, pinion gears, lower control arms, torque arm, etc. (http://www.texasfbody.org/forums/gar...e=vehicle&id=1)
