Not really something I recommend unless you have some gear experience.

Hmm...'gotta start somewhere'. How much work have you done to your car? Do you have a full set of tools, including measurement instruments like dial indicator gauge, pinion depth checker, rotational torque wrench, microabrasive defibrulator...ok so you don't need the last one, but you will need a lot of different tools for the install.

Getting the setup right on a gear set is crucial. Pinion depth, preload, backlash, are so important. Get it wrong and you will ruin a gearset in 5 miles, or have the howling pinion bearing from hell. If you have a friend who has done a few and can help, that would really be great...otherwise you might just want to pony up the $250ish and take it somewhere.

Sure if you got stuck you could take the rear end somewhere...removing the rear end isn't hard but it'd be another couple hours of your time you could have saved.

Good luck with whatever you decide...

actually i have most of that, i have machine shop access three days a week and thats where to presses are... for the old lathes we have the dial indicators and such...gotta torque wrench. how much are used 10 bolt rears tho? could they be had for around the same price as gears/proffesional installation? if so i could just get someones who upgraded to a moser or 9" right?

Yeah, probably. Used 10 bolts (often with aftermarket gears) run from $300-$500. That'd be a good idea...then you'd have your stocker as a backup when needed.

Totally depends. Mine was good for around 250 passes on BFG's and then broke on e.t. streets. I consider myself lucky to have it last so long.

I have a friend named Ben with an hugger orange car. If he looks at it the wrong way, his rear end breaks.
