I switched from 3.23's to 3.73's and I am doing a 500 mile break in. After that they are going to change the oil. I have 300 more miles to go.
I was told by someone else not to use Synthetic gear oil since I have an Auburn but they didn't say why.
The mechanic wants to use synthetic. So do I.
Opinions?

I don't know about other year LS1s, but my 98 Formula came with synthetic in the rear from the factory, and that's an Auburn diff. No problems there.

I've got 55k miles on my Auburn Pro Torque differential, and it's had synthetic oil in it from day 1, along with the GM additive. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

FYI Update;
The gears were broken in, seated perfectly amd we used regular GM posi oil.
Now I am roasting the low end!
My car pulled a 1.9 60' the other day at Grudge Night with stock radial tires (non DR's.)
It was over 100 degrees that day too!
Thinking of going to 3.73's?
I give the mod the thumbs up! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Here's what SLP uses. (Y2K Auburn)
Gear oil = Quaker State SAE 80W-90EP High Performance Non-Synthetic [has a internal additive. Available at WalMart
GM Lubrizol #1052358
2oz - AutoX - More grip = More Noise
4oz - Street - Less grip = Less Noise
DO NOT use a gasket - defeats the properties of the cover
DO NOT use RTV sealant - Additives eat it and the cover will leak.
USE ONLY - SLP Approved Three Bond Silicone Gasket #1216.
Manufactured under license to Suzuki - Part #99104-31160
Available at Suzuki Motorcycle Dealer.
Or Suzuki Car dealer
Part#: 99000-31160 (Suzuki Bond No. 1216
