Any diff between LS1 and V6 Rear End? Is there a difference inbetween a 3.8 v6's rear end and a ls1's
found one i could pick up real cheap then build it up.... but would it all be the same?

It will bolt up.
Check for a limited slip (that would have come from a factory Y87 car)
and gear ratio. If you have access to the car it came from, check the RPO, unless
you know it has been gone through before. Also you will be in for a pain in the rear if you try to put a rear with traction control (4 channel) into one without (3 channel).

The V6 axles are not as beefy. The LS1 axles are "pregnant" for lack of a better word as the dia increases after the spline where the V6 axles are the same dia for the entire length.
Not that I think this shouls scare you off they usually strip the splines if the axle fails at all which I would guesstimate about one axle failure for every ten or twenty pinion/ring gear failures.

Everything is the same aside from differntial and ratio options check the GU codes to insure its a limited slip or not and what the ratio is. Also research 3 & 4 channel options or your ABS wont work

are you just looking to do a swap to 3.42, is that the reason you want to swap rears cause for under $500 (without spedo calibration) you could have new 373's installed with fresh bearings, and 3.73 is the rear to run withan A4, otherwise if you have your heart set on 3.42's those would even be cheaper because everyone has their old 3.42's lieing around somewhere, you can get um off ebay for like $50 and those are the good AAM gears, i bought a set off ebay once for my old S-10 and they were more quet than the 3.08's I took out and those were stock. Just throwin a couple other options out there to save ya some aggrivation
