9"...The bigger the better <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

more gear choices, available with a locker which is way stronger than any posi, 35 spline axles, you can get it all <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" />

You can't get abs on a 9" so if that's a factor you'll have to go 12 bolt.

What is the price comparison between the two?

Which one is stronger?

I have a 12bolt and I love it.

But with a 9" you get TWICE as many gear and differential choices. Unless your planning on going into the 9s or faster both can be built strong enough.

YES YOU CAN GET ABS WITH A 9". Just ask Moser.

They are priced vary similarly, within a hundred bucks I believe.

My ABS is a three channel. Moser sets up the four channel ABS which has a sensor at each wheel. The three channel sensor is on the ring gear. I heard that currently there is no 3-channel setup.

Whatever you guys are hearing about not being able to get ABS and traction control with a 9 inch is crap. I have both and so do a few others I know.

I've heard the 9" are heavier. Any truth to this? and by how much? Can some also explain what spline axles are? Is there a huge difference between 33 and 35? Thanks guys, very informative thread.

It all comes down to weight and strength!!!

9"- supposedly stronger but you sicrifice an extra 100 lbs.

9"- supposedly stronger but you sicrifice an extra 100 lbs.(which is alot when it comes to racing)

12 bolt- lighter but you hear about them breaking, loosing torque arm bolts, whining, etc.

Its a tough call to me as I have been trying to decide for months. I dont think anyone can ever answer this question without some kind of sacrifice.

a 9 inch weighs 30 more lbs than a 12 bolt, NOT 100. The 12 bolt weighs about 30-40 over stock. There is NOT that big of a difference unless you have a race car with insane weight reduction. I would buy whatever is stronger. I have seen 12 bolts break but never a 9 inch.

I thought 4 channel was for ABS and TCS and that 3 channel was for ABS only. I think you may be mistaken. (I hope you are.)

I just read about it on their site. You can't get 3 channel ABS with a spool but it is readily available for a 12 bolt with a posi.

when a 33 spline 12-bolt rearend is set up properly (which most aren't), i would be willing to bet that none of you guys could break it short of throwing the car off of a cliff. a 9" weighs more, looks ugly, but does have a wider variety of gears to choose from, and can change gears quicker. 12 bolts are more than sufficient, less rotating mass, look awsome, and have more than enuff geat choices. an all-out rear end is a dana 60 (used to be on all the hemi's), but i dont hear of them much any more. a 12-bolt spool, or locker or posi will hold a 750-850rwhp 3500 pound 15 inch wide slick car anyday, if u ever go to watch old school guys, 12 bolts are very popular...
