preparing for the upcoming 9" questions..
but i'm concerned about the drive-shaft in the car (stock), in my opinion it seems to have way too much play in it..It moves in and out while spinning, installing the new 9" would this eliminate the play in the driveshaft, or is this completely normal ??
4.10 or 4.11 are usually a good ratio for a M6. I switched to 4.10 from 3.42 and lost 2 mpg on the highway. 26 down to 24. I feel it was worth it.
If your going for best track times you need a gear that will get as close as possible to redline at the end of the quarter mile with out shifting in 5th gear.
I don't think the gears will change the city MPG much if you shift it early and don't run up the revs.
Use this website and do some calculations make sure you have the right gear ratios, axle ratio, tire diameter and redline.

One issue you need to keep into account is the effective ratio will change with tire diameter.
Also if you have your rev limiter at stock like me, I need to modify my car appropriately or I will run out of gear. (i.e. putting in Nitrous before a cam. With Nitrous I wll have to shift into fifth unless I raise my rev limiter. I can't do that until I upgrade my valve springs and cam.)
What do you mean the DS moves it and out?
What do you mean the DS moves it and out?
Also, how will the 9" do on an eibach prokit? Will that affect anything or cause problems?
As far as mpg goes, going from a 3.42 to something of the 3.70 or 3.89 would I even notice a difference?
Also, this is not going to be a drag strip car, may see the track a few times but not a whole lot and when i'm back from deployment I would like to know for sure that the rear will be reliable so I won't hafta worry about fixing it in the little time i'd have.
What spline axles do you advise? Gears also? I don't plan on the car really having more than 500whp for a while.
If this car isn't going to be a drag car and may only go a few times, I would consider a 12 Bolt. I'm not saying this b/c I have it. I would rather have the S60 but they didn't make it when I bought mine since I like to Drag Race. If you have a 3 channel rear end you will loose the ABS function with the 9" since it only works with 4 channel.
The 12 bolt will be a little lighter and I think you can get it with a tru trac diff which I hear is good. If you change your mind, go with Strange, it has a better design for the Torque Arm mount. The bolts go all the way through from the top just like the 10 bolt. Moser's 12 bolt has 2 bolts from the top and 2 from the bottom. The bottom ones have a tendacy to back out.
