Slips out of 3rd, why?
if it is the first problem then its either the 3rd gear itself and the slider is tapered or the fork is worn out.
if it is the second problem then more than likely its the syncro.
just trying to help ya out .....

The tranny will slip into 3rd just A-ok, but for example, i go to school on a freaking mountain and on the way down, rather than fry the brakes (because it will!) i just ride the engine down. It will stay in fourth fine, and second fine, but not third. Now this doesnt happen CONSISTANTLY, just sometimes and mostly when it is cold. To be honest this problem has led me to to the 1, 2, 4 shift around town, and only when i want to embarass somebody do i use third.

Like I said earlier. There is a TSB(warranty) out on this problem. "Going down a hill in third and it pops out".....that's the TSB....bad syncro.

I am the third owner of the car, and i know nothing of a warranty (it is a 98), do you think they would do it for free. I guess im asking if it is a recall situation. Plus i got headers and all that jive.

I think if there is a TSB out....it's covered. Page Ken C. in the SLP lounge, he has a website (I believe) that list the TSB be year and model.
