Default 6-spd down shift problem

everytime i down shift for 4th to 3rd gear between 40-25 MPH the shifter gets very tough. It feels like I have to force it to a point where i feel that im going to have to abuse it or break it just to get the gear on to third. Ever since I bought the car (brand new from the dealership) I thought that the trans ams have a bad rough shifter (and mine has the stock hurst short shifter too).

I have 8300 miles on it now and its getting even worse... Now downshifting to any gear is getting harder and harder .. sometimes upshifting too! my friend has a 2000 mustang GT and I noticed that his shifter is much too smooth when comparing it to my car. All i need to do in his car is just slide it in gear and its all good ... meanwhile i have to force mine in ...

Please help i need to know if the trans ams come like that or if its just me because it really sucks

also if i get it fixed, what do I have to do to prevent that from re-occuring?

NO it's not right . Stock t-56 should be smooth something is wrong & take it for warranty now. 3-4 shift forks are lame stock bet problem lies there, but remote posibility of a syncronizer problem W/your low miles may also be possible.

Unless you have grinded your gears a whole bunch I doubt syncros would be anything to worry about. Maybe check your tranny fluid for a leak or bad fluid? I dont know why that would affect one gear though....hmmm...goto the dealer and let us know what it was!

sounds to me like the clutch isn't disengauging all the way to allow it to go into gear. can you put it in 1 and rev with no problems ?

I have a problem downshifting to 2nd and I talked to D&D and my local trans shop, they both seem to think its either a: blocker assembly, b:slider assembly or both, and in the process could have screwed up the synchro and or the gear itself.

thanks for all the feedback...

i can rev it up in first gear with no problems... the clutch is almost always fully in when shifting...

the clutch pedal also makes some kind of wierd resistence noise at times (sorry I dont really know how to describe it) sometimes. But when the car is not used for a day (or many hours) its doesnt make that sound.

something is really wrong..

Could be a clutch issue. Might want to try having the system re-bled before going in too deep...

it's also under warranty...let the dealer fix it! Don't let them try to say you abused it so they are not going to fix it. 8300 miles...nothing should go out that quick unless you just didn't know how to drive a manual tranny.

how hard is it for me to let them replace the clutch? what do i have to do? also is it true that all the 2002 6-spd LS1s come with a Z06 clutch? Also I've heard that all the 6 spds do shift rougher than 5 spds is that true?

please help me out on this one...
