Default street racing with 4.30s question

ok so mods are in signature. i gotta rebuild my 12 bolt so i want to go with a gear like 4.10s or 4.30s now my question is not mpg or what not but this:

i had 3.73s and could drop it into 2nd at 45mph and really pull hard and get a good jump and go through the gears.

now if i had a 4.30(which im leaning towards) at 45mph what gear could i drop down into and still bang a gear or two before pulling in 6th, you know what i mean? or is this more of a gear you leave it in 4th and just pull there or what?

so basically downshifting characteristics of the 4.30s for racing.

thanks,

ryan

4.30s are a blast, the pull is great. you would drop it to 2nd

ive read the stickys and ive been to that site and looked over the differences between 3.73s and 4.30s even 4.10s. i just wanted to know from someone daily driving 430s if you can drop it into second and still go threw the gears like 3.73s only much fast.

you could drop it to 2nd from 45, but you'd be shifting RIGHT AWAY. i'd just drop it into third from 55-60. =)

anyone know where i can get a 4.30 gear for a 3 series carrier for a 8.875 12 bolt?

i just talked to strange engineering and they said the only way to run a 4.30 gear set on a 3 series carrier is to put a spacer plate between the carrier and ring. whats your idea on this?

If you're into street racing then make sure you have some good tires on there. With the 4.30's I think you're going to roast the tires on the street whenever you punch it especially if you downshift hard.

I've been kicking around the idea as well, I have 3.42's in the Moser and I am deciding between the 4.11's and 4.30's which they offer. I used the calculator on a 25.5" tall tire and in the 1/4 you trap low 120's which is good on 4.30's doing a cam only setup, but start talkin juice or even heads I amy have to step it up to a 28" tall tire to give me the revs.

As for street racing, unless you got a kick *** tire, your going to have to baby it out of the hole, if you race from a roll you should be fine but your going to be shifting sooner and may find yourself in 5th more often

Ryan you should just put the stock rear end in since your car doesnt make enough power to break it.
