Default Weakness of stock rear end

There is not way I can improve (get stronger) my factory (98) camaro rear end (center part the axles)? The only way is replace it by a moser or other brands? Them are too expensive. Any suggestions? If I use an old ford 9", what happens with the antilock and all the stock sensors?

You can be all the 98-lb body builder you want and
you're still going to get sat on in the WWF. That's
the deal.

You can improve it, sure. It's usually considered
poor economics if you're ***** out for power and
traction, but a street or cornering car can do OK
with a few pieces improved and enjoy the lighter
weight.

But put those rasslin' tights on and you -will- get
sat on....

I suggest a Moser. Do it right the 1st time and be done with it.

The weak part is the carrier (posi) and the gear set. The axles aren't that bad and rarely break compared to the # of gear/posi failures.

The best mod that I ever did was the Billingsley 9". Allowed me to always put the power to the ground with out having to worry that I might break the rear. Don't just put a band-aid on a cut that you know is going to break open sooner or later.

I'd do it right, and put a 12 bolt or a 9" in it.

Lucky for me, my 81 has a 8.5" 10 bolt. It's quite a bit stronger than the 7.5" that GM put into the LT1/LS1 cars, but I'm getting axles, gears, posi, and having my tubes welded (by a shop....) so I shouldn't have to worry about it for a while. If/when I do break that, then I'll probably move up to a 9".
