Default Stock 10 Bolt Question....

Hey guys had a quick question, tried the search button but couldn’t find what I was looking for. I see a ton will my 10 blot last at the track w/ some dr’s and what not. But I want to know is it just as hard on the rear if your only roll racing compared to launching? So if I have 380 – 400 rwhp and only really roll race w/ stock size tires, defiantly not sticky, w/ a set of 4:10’s is my rear just as likely to blow as if I were launching the car hard? And lets say I am spinning if I nail it at the top of 1st / 2nd gear that is better then hooking right as far as wear and tear goes. Hey thanks for the input guys!

Oh no! Don't do it, as soon as you floor it once the rearend is going to EXPLODE!! Your going to hear all the negatives, so I'll be the first to tell you the positive.

I make 410 rwhp, 6 speed, 4.10 gears in the 10 bolt, textralia clutch, and run nitto drag radials. My rear end doesn't whine and I haven't broke anything, along with 1.8 60 ft's at the track. I'm actually trying to get some BFG dr's, since the nittos spin so bad.

If your making 380-400 rwhp and you have 4.10 gears, you won't be seeing any traction whatsoever in 1st or 2nd with street tires. I don't get traction with nitto drag radials.

This subject has been absolutely beat to death as of late and my answer is always the same...you can't tell exactly when it's going to go. It doesn't matter if you try and baby it or not, when its number is called, it is going to exit stage left and that's it. Considering that people break 10 bolts with stock horsepower and not racing, you really can't count on anything.

I've done nothing but roll racing with my stock rear and stock tires w/ 400+rwhp and 4:10s...nothing has happened yet. No point in launching yet, but I think thats when most of the breaks happen.

My old car made the same power, 4.10's, probably 10-15 DR passes launching around 3200. I sold it and the guy broke the ring and pinion on street tires two weeks later. Now you hear a thousand headaches with the 2500-$3000 aftermarket rear ends. Howling, grinding, leaking, fitment, on and on and on. I don't know which is worse....

GM gave us the 7.5 because

A) it's cheap as hell
B) it robs very little horsepower
C) they knew that people would take the F-bodies and mod the hell out of them and put in different gears and new rearends and make tons of power and do tons of burnouts/donuts/clutch dumps.... but a nice 12 bolt would have been nice...

Well all I can tell you is this, I am running mickey thompson et streets 325/50/15 and with the nitrous putting down somewhere around 650 to 700 at the rear wheels and still have my stock 10 bolt. I don't launch it hard ie usually 2.0 60' times with is kind of a disgrace to the tires I am running but I have a full 250 shot hitting at 3k and the rear held up. the et wasn't very impressive but the mph was. 11.41@132. Personally I can't wait to get a new rear most likely a 9inch with a detriot locker and 3.89 gears. I was kind of curious as to what the fastest anyone has ran with bone stock, 120k plus mile 10 bolt? ok it doesn't have to have the 120k plus miles on it. lol

Some people have more luck with their 10 bolts than others...

If you run stickier tires and hook, I can almost guarantee You will brake your rearend soon, especially with 4.10s..

But still, I knew a guy with a M6 Turbo Z28 that was makong over 550 WHP and did break his 10 bolt yet.

My car is bone stock and has never been beat on. Stock clutch jsut came out with 80K miles and 25% life left due to noisy TO bearing. My rear end took a **** while gently taking off in the shop's driveway to pull back into the shop so they could adjust a heat-shield. So far we know the pinion bearing is GONE and are not sure what else may/may not be hurt. 10-bolts suck, get a 9".

400+ to the wheels, M6, 32k miles stock 3.42s so far so good. i know i wont put 4.10s in the stock rear end just cause if it happends to break there goes $400 bucks towards a 12 bolt..
