I was going to powder coat my 9", but I needed to weld on the relocation brackets. So I coated it with por-15. It looks just like the stuff on my car I had powder coated and you can repair it if it gets chipped.

Looks great, mmm, new parts...

I have some of the por-15 stuff in my garage, Its not close to the same finish as powdercoating I use the por-15 on the chassis.

Well I think it looks very similar to powder coat when prepped and painted properly. But yes powder coat does give an excellent consistent finish. I would have opted for that as my first choice, but it would have been a PITA since I bought the rear assembled.

What is por 15? Is it a paint that you buy and put through a regular auto paint gun?

It is a weird paint. It says it dries by absorbing water in the air rather than the solvent evaporating like normal paint. The real beauty in the stuff is that you can paint over rust and it won't rust again. Also you can paint with a paint brush and it self levels leaving a finish that looks like it was sprayed. You can spray it also, but you need to buy their solvent. It dries to a hard/durable finish in (my experience) about 3 hrs. I'm not advertising for them... it is just cool stuff.

I have some pics but the paint is black and it just kinda looks like a blob.

You can read about it on their web site por-15.com.

Looks sweet but for $45 and a few hours time, I'll hit mine with POR15 rust preventative and then some Blackcoat and it'll look nearly as good and be more durable.

Who's got an oven that big? Pizza oven?

that looks good.

i haven't had much luck with powder coat. everything thats been on my car thats pc has chipped or peeled or rusted(springs, t/a, crossmembr, phr, lca, stb) and when i built a podium for our church and got it coated at a local place with a great rep, it took them 2 tries and it still didn't look as good as i would have hoped(due to the shape, they wanted to drill more holes in it if i wanted it done again)

i must just have bad luck

All I had to do is drop it off and pick it up the next day, I didn't have to get a brush out or anything.

seriously, how does it get easier then getting a better job done for about the same cost with NO work to be done by yourself?

now if it were alot more expensive, i might be able to see using por 15. id use por 15 before i paid moser 250 though
