Default What is that clunk sound during 1-2 shift?

Whenever I take off the 1-2 shift always gives off this hard deep clunk sound from the rearend as though the gears are having a hard time turning. is that just the firmness of the shifts from the shiftkit or is my rear end going out? nothing is leaking back there and it looks fine. it's been doing this since I've had the new transmission in and that's been about half a year.

I think on mine it's the windup of various suspension
pieces' slack, because it didn't do it at all (or the
noise was not audible) until I replaced the stock TA
with the adjustable, rod-end one and when I swapped
it out for a fixed UMI it got a lot (but not entirely)
better. The more slop-points and the sloppier they
are, the harder your rubber pieces, the sharper the
load/unload/load bang gets out of the running gear
and into the body.

Does it only make that noise on the 1-2 shift or will it sometimes do it when you're stopped and first start out in first?

so you think a fixed TA will fix this problem? if so, what else should i replace with it? i'd hate for it to effect anything in my rearend, i hear they can break 10 bolts fast?

I had a similar problem... turned out to be a broken torque arm.

TA may not be bad, but still make (or just transmit) noise.
Before getting all excited I'd go on a lube-n-tighten mission.

1+.... I didn't diagnose your problem, because I don't know that to be a common one. Look everything over thoroughly, and make sure you check that torque arm out well, too. Mine was broke in a very inconspicuous manner... I went through two rear ends before I finally seen it.

I'd do what the guys above me recommended and check your u-joints while you're under there just to be safe.
