anyone ever ran a 4.56 gear?
I was just wondering if anyone has ever ran a 4.56 gear? i am looking into changing my gear ratio because my 60' times suck! im runnin a m6 camaro.. i know most people run 4.10's in m6's but just wondering if a 4.56 gear would wake it up even more and if i could stay in 4th gear at the end of the quarter.. ive asked around and some people said to stay away from a gear that low b/c of fuel mileage.... i say who cares about fuel mileage.. i didnt buy the car to save gas.. if i wanted something easy on gas i would have bought a metro.. anyways.. if you guys and/or ladies would chime in i could really use some input... thanks a lot.... I went with a 4.11 gear. Gear calculator says it will still top out at 125 or so at 6700 rpm's in 4th gear. Check the sticky for gear changes. 4.56's will put you at only 111 mph at 6500. Depends on what your red line is set at. Just go to the calculator and mess with it.

I might run them with a 9 inch if I ever break the stock rear. I wouldn't run them on a stock 10-bolt though. My 3.42's will suffice for now even though I'd like to get 3.73's, but don't know if $300 (including install) is worth pouring into a rearend that will eventually go

That's great MPG

I am getting ready to buy a moser 9", just not sure which gears tho... nothing higer than a 4.11. I would really like to hear from some m6 guys with gears lower than 4.11's. Isn't there a 4.3x gear? Something between the 4.11 and 4.56? I have had people say traction becomes an issue when getting really low gears. Anybody with any experience in these realms?

If you want to go faster than ~135 in 4th on 28" ET Drags, then consider 4.30's.
But 4.56's are THE FUNNEST GEAR (yee haw FUNNEST) in an M6 car.
I've had 4.10's, 4.30's, and 4.56's. 4.56's are by far my favorites. Drive a 4.56 car, and then drive a 3.42 or 3.73 car, it'll drive you nuts. I promise.
And yes, 6th gear is usable. I know exactly what he's sayin'.
Don't fear the gear. 4.56's and 28" tires are what you want at the track.

I have had 3.42s, 3.70s, and 4.11s, but I LOOOVE the 4.30s that are in the 9" now. I will never go lower (numerically). 4.56s would be my next option. No issues at all on the street and the 4.30s cleared up some of the shimmy issues with my locker.

I topped out at ~7k at 134 mph with 4.56's, 28s, on the spray... I dropped back to 4.30's, but haven't sprayed the car with them. 60' NA times got worse tho... mid 1.4's with the 4.56's, to mid 1.5's with the 4.30's (then again, track was crappy that day ).
