Are you sure it's a t-56? I think that should be a ZF gearbox. They are german made, real nice gearboxes....expensive to fix and you'll have to beat on your floor pan (and maybe make several other changes) just to get it in there....unless it's free...I'd not bother with it...I don't believe the vette got a t-56 until 1997.

http://www.zfdoc.com/faq.htm

Look at the second question on here....about a 1995 vette ZF gearbox (ZF6). I'd say it is a ZF....

Good luck

As trackbird said, the C4's came with the ZF S6-40 6-speed. Quite different from the T56.

The ZF is a very strong transmission but i think it will be more hassle that it is worth to get it in there. C4 vettes have quite a a bit more tunnel room than a fourth gen f-body.

I was reading about it a little (thanks trackbird) and it looks like it possibly could mate up but there would be crossmember issues.... strong transmission no doubt...

Actually the T56 is rated for more torque than the later ZF's. The early S6-40's were rated at 450 ft-lb (same as our T56). Then in 93 or 94 they modified the gears for less noise and the rating dropped to 410 ft-lb. Also the shifters are a PITA to change. The ZF in my 92 ZR1 was a butter-smooth tranny, but kinda noisy at idle - even with the dual mass flywheel.
