Default 500rwhp,6K Clutch Dumps= 9inch tru trac?

Anyone out there doing this?

Can a 9 inch with a tru trac take this kind of abuse? Car will be street driven all the time but want to be able to handle high rpm dumps. 4.30-4.56 gears will be in the rear.

The 9" can... but the True Trac wont, for too long.

agree with above. I just blew up a T2R torsen with a 5500 RPM dump on Saturday. For drag racing the heilical style carriers just dont take the instant shock loads very well. I knew this going into it but thought my 400 rwhp would not be enough to blow it.... 40 passes later

I'd go with a spool with the 9 inch. Bob

The FMS Trac Loc is a great posi that handles a lot of power and best of all its reasonably priced. The local Mustang shop has been running 9's on theirs for years without a failure. If its a track only car a spool is fine but I'm not one for spools on the street.

Auburn Pro or Eaton are also good choices just a little pricier

I would not recommend a Trac Loc myself. Keep in mind that most of our cars are heavier than most Mustangs, which puts a greater load on the rears. Bob

IMO, a locker is the best for his sitation...stronger than the true trac and more streetable than the spool....spools are THE strongest though, no doubt...
I am going to go with a locker for my strip/street car.

I hear you Bob you are not alone in your views but those things are tough Paul Sivla performance ( The P at the former J&P performance ) here in Toronto swears by them and I have to say he has some very solid proof to back his support. Over ten seasons on the same T-loc in the 9's is hard to argue. Its the unit he pushes on all his customers and when i got into the 8.8's I too became a believer in their strength. Granted Fox bodies are lighter but 9's are pretty intense any which way you slice it. Keep in mind the 31 spline Motorosport Ford unit is far superior to the standard 28 spline stock mustang piece. Only drag is the clutches do wear out and need to be re-placed now and then.

Anyways spool is certainly the toughest but not my idea of streetable. Dteroit lockers are super tough ( I dont know of anyone who has broken one do you guys? ) but again not really what I like for street they are a little too crang and bang for my tastes. I love those helical units man I sure did love that Torsen. Too bad they dont take the abuse.

Always some sort of comprimise I guess. For a drag car that sees occasional street duty I supose the locker is probably the best way to go or maybe the spool if you can handle it. If its a street car that occasionally sees the track I'd go for the FMS T loc, Eaton or Auburn pro.

Of course I would vote the True Trac or Torsen hands down if they could take the pounding. Anyways not really my bag anymore I'm barely doing any rears these days but we are doing one for a TT 6.0 M6 car soon so it'll be interesting to see how long the T loc lasts cuz thats what we're putting in.

Trac loc's are not a bad route to go... as long as it utilizes a billet side cover (which every aftermarket unit does). The OE two and four pinion units used to brake around the ring gear bolt head recesses... all the way around the cover. Since the introduction of the billet side covers, the failure rate has gone down to nearly zero (for its most prominent failure). The next weakness in the unit is... the fiber clutches. But since its a wear item... its really just a maintenence issue.

Best part is... it is a rebuildable and tuneable differential.

But... FWIW... a real "Torsen Gleason" is the strongest unit out there. Its just that most anybody around here doesnt really want to spend $1300.00 for a differential unit. Nor would most even consider a DPI unit affordable either...

First of all why dump @ 6k? If you launch the car at those rpms, it will be harder for the car to hook up. Get a line lock (m6) brake (A4) and a BMR adj T/A. If you have a stocker it must look like this ~~~~~~

A trac loc with a billet hat and forged internals will hold up much better.
