if it is a spool, the good things are that both axles are locked together to rotate the same causing true traction and a straighter launch. bad news is that they are locked at all times. if you try to turn and give it gas the rear tires will push it straight sense they rotate at the same speed. you could literally press the gas and turn the steering wheel but still go straight to a point. if the drags alot it is good. if you drive it daily it can be done but it is hard to deal with.

I run a spool in my 12 bolt and have yet to expierence it push the car. When I turn the wheel and give it gas I turn.
A spool takes some getting used too. Tight turns at slow speeds make for some wierd noises and sensations. In these slow turning situations you kinda drive the car with the gas pedal AND the steering wheel if you know what I mean. Once going straight it feels like any other posi or locker unit. It will eat tires at a much faster rate than a non spool unit. Drag radials + Spool + water is a recipe for disaster. Don't drive it in the rain. Some say its ok to drive in the rain but I would never do it. Water spilling from the bed of a pickup truck has almost killed me.
As with other things the spool is a hardcore move. If you run one in a daily driver you will likely go insane.

i know what you mean i was just telling him that if you want to just go out and full throttle it is a turn like you could in a 10 bolt things are going to be a little different.

Go big or go home... get what you think will be best. I hate thinking that I half-assed something. If it involves my drivetrain, I wouldn't live with it. Unless this is an emergency and you can't live without your car (if it's undrivable), then do it, but I wouldn't if I could get the best out there.

I'm on day two with my spool and I have zero complaints...With the M/T radials I hardly know its back there...I even have a tight right turn to get into my garage and it scuffs the inside tire a bit, but its not bad...I've done parking spaces, tight turns, etc and its not bad at all...I'm sure its no fun in the rain, but I'll have lots of piece of miind at the track...

Alan, you still have the factory 10 bolt in the car? - if so, any mods to it?

No, I've got a Strange 12 bolt that came with an Eaton which worked ok, but single tracked a couple of times in the burn out box...I wanted to make sure both tires were getting power to get my launches perfect...So far, aside from the Richmond gears being a bit noisey (but still more quiet than the Strange set up gears that came with the rear) the spool has been very liveable...Like I said above I hardly know its there except for the tight right turn into my garage, but even then I don't feel it...I see the black mark from the inside tire on the driveway...
