LS1 rearend on an LT1 Fbody?
Im looking to replace my rusted out Lt1 rearend. I dont want to send thousands of dollars and get a 12 bolt or 9in so thats out of the question. I am upgrading my suspension and I came across an LS1 rear end locally pretty darn cheap.
Its from an 99 LS1 trans am-273 rear end
I have a 93 Lt1 camaro automatic
Im gonna guess and say its a 3 ch in my camaro. But im honestly not 2 sure. I read the faqs and didnt find an answer,
Do all LS1 have a 4 ch rearend?
this rear end is like 150 dollars locally, should i buy it or wait till i find an LT1 rearend?
thanks

It will fit but more in likely you will have to ditch the abs because most ls1 setups are 4 channels. I bought a moser 9 that came out of a 2000 ws6 4 channel for my 94 z28. Only thing was I lost the abs and you need different parking brake cables. - Mike.

I'm pretty sure yours will be 3 channel. If your LS1 rear is a 4 channel you'll need to drill a hole for the ABS sensor in the pumpkin, and add a reluctor wheel to the differential (or give up on ABS entirely).
$150 is a good deal for a 10 bolt, but still a 10 bolt is a 10 bolt, it will not be much stronger than the one that you have now.

The seller said it had ABS and TRC. So im guessing its a 4ch. I want to retain the ABS in my car. The only reason im upgrading is for appearence. I really dont need or want to spend the money to get a beefy 9 in or 12 bolt.
It is will take to much work to convert it over then I might as well wait until I find a 3 ch.
Can I use everything I already have from my 3 ch and just convert it over? ABS wise (Besides drilling the hole)
thanks

If it's just for appearance, then maybe you should consider pulling out your rear-end and sanding the rust off. Then you could paint it with POR-15 and never worry about it again.
I did that to mine and it has been "hammer tough" for over two years.
