Default Bad pinion angle...DAMAGE????

i had an adjustable chassis mounted torque arm installed and the dumbass didnt adjust the pinion angle. it looks to be pointin up (in the positives) a good amount. i took it to the track and now the gears are loud as ****, there is a grinding noise, and it sounds like the driveshaft is slopping around. could there be possible pinion bearing damage or offsetting the gears or w/e?

Very possible the pinion bearings are shot and maybe the gears. That thing should have vibrated like hell if its as bad as you claim.

Bearings are toast. Ring & Pinion is questionable. You will not be able to tell until you open it up. Let me know if you need any parts or have any questions.

We normally adjust the pinion angle to -2 with the vehicle on our drive on lift, and it is critical that the pinion angle is not too far out of range. Bob

First, you cant tell your pinion angle by looking at it. pinion angle does not mean pointing up or down. Your pinion angle is in direct relation to you driveshaft angle. If your d/s angle is pointing down towards rear then your pinion should point up slightly. Picture a lifted 4wd with an extreme d/s angle the rearend pinion should point up almost as much as the d/s angle is down. 1 or 2 degree down is recomended. You really must use an angle finder for accuracy.

There is a really slick pinion angle finder from Power House Products. I paid around $75.00 from Motorstate, (Lane Automotive), in Michigan. It works good.
