One reason people use Chrome moly steel
is that it works fine with mild steel MIG
wire.

If you're talking about the bead where
the tube is welded to the yoke, that is
going to be plenty strong either way.
You're talking about the force line
being in the direction of the bead, not
across it.

You'd really like some ductility there
instead of a high strength but low
toughness filler. Mild steel won't crack
on you unless you bend-fatigue it, and
the yoke's butt inside the tube should be
a press fit eliminating that issue.

i think thats the only place they use welds. the sponsor thats selling it says he thinks it should be strong enough, but i have one person saying that it doesnt get hot enough, which scares me since i already broke one driveshaft and made a mess. 60s will be in the 1.4 range.

When I worked in a welding/machine shop years ago I always used a 7018 rod and stick welded the yokes to the shaft. This was on regular steel DS tubing. I've seen the shafts twist, but never had a weld break.
