16 & 17" M/T ET Streets!!
Maybe this is already known to a bunch of you, but just read in new issue of Car Craft under "new products" that Mickey Thompson is now making 16 & 17" ET Street Drag tires in various widths and heights. Presumably, for us... Anyone have in their possession, or seen, or heard about these tires yet? Should be a interesting twist to the tire wars. Anyone? 16" ET Streets been out for a while. Dberry on this board mounted a set on my stock T/A wheels back in November of 2001. He has never run them though.
The 17" ET's are 26 x 11.50 x 17 and they are not available yet. I wouldn't hold your breath though <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />
I've really been looking forward to the 17" ET's and have been in e-mail contact with MT about them.
The last info I received was that the 17's are to be out around the end of February. The year was not specified...

Wouldn't a slick in a 40 series be useless? There isn't much sidewall to flex. They might be ok for some street cruising and relatively stock cars to light bolt-ons, but I can't see any 9 second ETs from them, BUT you never know!
Goose,
I think you answered your own question. There is a market for this size tire. There's more street car's with bolt-on's, on 17's then 9 sec race cars trying/wanting to race on 17's. It takes a ton of planning and money to go 9 secs or even 10's. The people doing it aren't going to pick the wrong combo in tires and wheels. If they do come out soon, I can't wait to get those 16" salad spinners off my SS for street use.

Sounds good but I'd like to keep my e/t streets on seperate rims and just run Nitto 555's all year round.
Sounds very good, I would only purchase them for the street if the wear rating was nice and I doubt it will be.

Anytime pal! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
Now all us 17"x11" rear guys don't have to score 16" or 15" inch wheels to go racing! <img border="0" alt="[burn out]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_burnout.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[driving]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_driving3.gif" />

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but these tires are not for everyday use like the Nittos are. My understanding is that everyday use, and I mean just driving around town, these tires would only last about 1000 miles. That's right, right? If that's the case, we would still have to have an additional set of wheels to swap back and forth when racing. And since the sidewalls are thinner, then I would think I'd be better off getting either 15 or 16" to have a thicker sidewall for racing. Am I correct?
I might have to try some out for the hell of it.I have a set of Hoosier Road race tires and the hook pretty good. After you get them real hot <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
SS125 I'm not sure how hard core U are into drag racing, but when I bolt on the 17x11/315/35/17's in March they are there till October for maximum traction action! <img border="0" alt="[burn out]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_burnout.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[driving]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_driving3.gif" />
Now I do use 16X8's with 295/50/16's out back for winter driving, but that's it! <img border="0" alt="[judgement]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_judge.gif" />
So I am very excited <img border="0" alt="[gruffy cottonball]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_gruffy.gif" /> at the prospect of having a ultimate straight line tire for the 17 inch rims! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />
