Default Any modification required to make 9" fit?

I'm seriously considering a Moser 9" (with Auburn posi and 31 spline axles) for my new Project Z. I know that the Strange rears are a direct swap...but I'm wondering if anything is required for a 9" swap? Any torque arm issues/modifications? Do the 9" rears require a backing plate swap like the 12-bolts?

Any heads up or advice will be appreciated.

I made no mods for my 9 inch.

you will have to swap the backing plates out, but its no big deal. the caliper mounts are in fact what hold the axles in.

the only thing I had to do was fasten the brake lines to the new axle. i used zip straps... cake...

You will have to grind some on the torque arm to make it fit on the bracket. No big deal though

I took out 2 M6 trannies with mine before I realized my Driveshaft was too long. (both locked up in 4th gear)

Once I had one shorter one made I haven't had a problem since

Brian-
That's the first I've heard of this? Is this a normal issue or are you an exception?

Also...is there a difference between a true Ford 9" and the Moser 9"??

I always seem to be the exception to the rule.

but once you get it and go to install the DS...just measure the yoke clearance (how far from bottoming in the tranny)

my OEM driveshaft required me to pull the caps off the u-joint to get it in the yoke (then reinstall the caps). That is unacceptable. My correct driveshaft can be inserted in the tranny then pulled back into the yoke without any problems.

Fireball !!! I have a FORD 9' that was custom madein the 80s for a 3rd gen gen Camaro[before they were available from STRANGE or Currie],am wondering about DS lenght. My car is lowered 2 1/2"s and I was wondering if my DS isn't TOO SHORT,from a muffler pit[weight on tires]I measure 3 1/2 inches from tranny tail to center of U-Joint,does this sound excessive?????

my 9in was a direct bolt in no grinding or DS shortening. All i had to do was get the u-joint changed to a 1350.

I think the A4 is less sensitive to DS length. We M6 guys need more tolerance to the constant shock loading of the rear

So I guess I won't know until I get my entire drivetrain out of the car and attempt to install it? Gee..that sounds like fun. Perhaps I should just stick w/ the Strange rears. They're not very strong, but at least there are no surprises midway thru the install.
