Default 4.10's??? need more gear 4.56's??? Input needed.

I need some input running a 355 CI Lt1 with about 430 RWHP... this was dynoed on a A4 with a TCI 3500 stall... Now i went with a 6 speed set up and I am getting a real flatspot in my midrange. Car feels a lot slower. I am running a twin disc clutch set up with all hydralics upgraded. Now in comparsion to my Ls6 the car feels like a dog in the mid range....car may need a sight adjust in tune but nothing to crazy... I am thinking about going with a 9" which i am at the edge of buying but want to know if i need more gear than a 4.10.... I am running a pretty big cam in th 230's duration on a 112.... ported heads and intake al the bolt ons.... I am very unhappy with the stick set up due to the fact that i was expecting a huge difference in power from my A4.... didnt get it.... now anyone run a 4.56 or know how they do... I dont drive my car everyday mainly a weekend car but i would like to drive on the freeway.... anyone got any info on how a 4.56 would do on a 6 speed...Thanks...

I know several guys that have 4:56 gears but they all run 28' tires. Cut great 60's.

4.30 ratio might be a good compromise.

The torque multiplication from the 3500 rpm stall converter would be dramatic, which is why automatics these days tend to post better 1/4 mile numbers. I agree with Jeff, I would try 4.30 gears. Bob

I have 4:30's and love them in my M6. A 4:56 is alittle steep for stock size tires.

I've run 4.56's with stock size tires, my car ran great till I got to the 1,000 ft mark and ran out of gear

If you need more gear, run more gear, if it is too much gear, you can always run a little taller tire, if you don't have enough gear you're screwed, but you can always add more power to make up for it Like some nitrous

On mine I am getting 5.29's and going 1/8th mile racing =)

With a clutch car, there must be enough gear to get the car out without pulling the motor out of the powerband. 4.30s would be as high as I would go with that 2.64 low gear. Something has to slip for the first 30 feet or so. Most street cars will spin the slicks. I use a somewhat mild but adequate clutch and allow the tires to turn about one revolution off the line. I control this with tire pressue. Leave at high revs and shock the tires off the line. when clutch and transmission speed match and everything is locked up, the engine rpm must be close to peak torque. The car can not be allowed to bog or parts will break. Got to love those stall converters. They really take this pain out of the epuation! Just gear for proper trap rpm and choose the right converter. Done! That said, I have had a lot of fun banging gears with a 4 speed or 5 speed in my 55 Chevy.

I run 4.57 spool on the street thru a 9 inch and love it! I too am 6 speed. I run stock diameter tires (18's but still same height) on the street and as long as I control the self-minded right foot, i'm good to go. On the strip, I run 28" slicks and pull the fronts hip high to a 1.4-1.5 short time. Nothing like pulling out of 6th and rippin into 4th in a cloud of spent tire!!! I had 4.10's, than 4.30's and now 4.57's all in the 9 inch. All were spools and the 4.57's are the best and most fun. My gas mileage isn't that bad either. High teens if I drive it like my yukon.

I've got 4.56's in my 9" with stock height 26" tires. It's just a little bit too much gear for the 1/4 (4.30's would be great), but they're an absolute blast on the street.......and cruising at 70mph is only 2100rpm. I just need some 28" tires for the track and I'll be set!

4.56's here and on the street there the best and if you track it you have to get a 28in tire i made the mistake once ! way to much gear for a 26in tire ,but hang in there ! real cars have 3 pedals !

4.56's are going in my car as we speak at New Era, like others have said, get some 28" tires for the track. I went with the MT 325/50/15's and have stock height tires for daily driving. It should be a blast on the street.
