Default Need info on stock axles. I Got a bad axle bearing

I have a 99 trans am with traction control. I am pretty sure I have a bad axle bearing on the passengers side rear. From what I have seen on here I will probly need a new axle. with the traction control that means I have a 4 channel rear right? So i will need a axle from a 4 channel rear? can some one also list the part numbers for the axle bearings and stuff I will need to change the bearings?

You have a 4 channel rear, that's right. I'm not positive but I think I remember that the only difference is the reluctor ring that's pressed onto the axle--to make it a 4 channel. It's been several years since I last saw a stock rear. Let's see if someone else can confirm.

You just need to get an axle and have the reluctor ring pressed off the old axle and then pressed on the new one. Unless you do buy one, with it already on there, just letting you know your options...

3 channel axles and 4 channel axles are different. The 3 channel axle does not have a machined boss to accept the reluctor ring.

Beat me to it. Be sure that you do indeed get a 4 channel axle. What is it doing for you to say this it is bad? What happens 99% of the time is that axle forms pitting right where it contacts the bearing and will chirp or click every time it rotates.

Yup I had to get new bearings and it pitted mine. Still putting up with the axle noise for now until I get the $ for a new axle

So is the axle bearings different or can you use the same part numbers for a 3ch and 4ch?

Same axle bearings can be used as well as the seals.
