Default Moser vs. Strange

With some power adders on the way, I will have to change out the POS stock rear on my M6. I'm looking for comments on the Moser and the Strange rears. I'm leaning towards the Strange because there seems to be more complaints about the Moser (customer service, whine, improper gear set up, etc.) I decided against getting an old 9" rear thanks to the help of people on this site. I hate anything old anyway, I only like new things.

I've been hearing too that the Strange is easier to install, which may save me some labor costs. Anywho, your feedback is mucho appreciado....

If I were to do the swap, I'd go for the Strange 12 bolt. It's $$$, but I've read nothing but good things about the ease of install and its quality. If money were tight, I'd go for the Moser without thinking twice though.

I have also decided to go with a Strange based on feedback I’ve seen here. tbyrne had a Group Purchase for $2,049 about a month ago, which was an excellent price. Unfortunately, I can’t consider having any downtime until after September 27th (which I most humbly note is NHRA Division I Northeastern bracket finals ) so I had to take a pass. But a rear end swap is a definite winter project for me. We should both keep an eye out for another GP.

My thoughts are being confirmed. Yeah, winter would be a good time for the rear upgrade, keep an eye out for the GP's!

SouthFL.02.SS, we are going to do some winter racin'! I also gotta go buy a helmet!

Absolutely, can't wait for the weather to cool down. Went to Moroso last week and it was hot as *****. If these guys are right about the NHRA rules change (T-tops), you're gonna need more than a helmet next year. Try monkey bars also.
Would love to try to get a GP goin' for the 12 bolt, but I'm kinda tight on $$$ right now. Maybe next year. Maybe sooner though (if the 10 bolt goes).

There is no rule change for T-tops. Check the drag racing section for the latest.

Ditto that, man. Whew! Back to the rear end discussion, does anyone want to support Moser as the "premier rear?" (sorry, 'had to) The Strange looks to be only a couple hundered dollars more from what I have been seeing, or is it more than that?

My money tree probably won't bloom until after the holidays, and with the power adders on the way, I won't be able to jump on the new-butt wagon anytime soon. I'm pretty sure about going with Strange 12 Bolt though....

I've seen several of both brands. I think the Moser housing is much better quality, but I wouldn't trust them to do the assembly of the internals. Best idea would be to buy all the Moser parts and have a proven shop assemble it.

I agree with Tony 100%.

I run the Moser because I believe it to be the stronger housing but, the Strange should be plenty strong for all but the most hardcore and abusive of drag racers.

Moser here. But I paid a local guru to do the assembly and set everything up to be perfect. Two more weeks, and I will have the car back on the road.

Moser 12-bolt with 4.11's and 3 channel ABS. well Moser is gonna do it for now. if it messes up then Charlie i guess...lol. just the price difference for now. 50 for moser vs 250 from Charlie (he said maybe more depending on how hecktic it got) so I'm chancin it with Moser i guess.lol But yea 4.11's and I'm gonna be savin up for the Wilwood brakes all around so watchout lol.

Some good responses here. I plan to go up to maybe 550-600HP. Still OK with Strange? Moser people, it sounds like Moser does a mediocre job of setting that rear up. But you feel it worth the extra time/money for a capable independent shop to set it up right? I assume that you are choosing this option because you plan to go HUGE on horsepower.

ScrudeDude, yeah, the Strange is plenty good for that power. It's actully more to do with your 60 ft times.

My car with the Moser pulled 1.3s 60s and ran high 9s last year. This year the goal is to pull 1.2 60s and run high 8s so I need every little bit of insurance I can get.

Hey Justin, talk to me about those Wilwood brakes before you get them. I don't know if they're such a good idea for you if you're talking about the lightweight ones like I have on my drag car.

Moser has a problem with setting the rear up right which ends up costing the customer more $$ to get it fixed right.
I'm a supporter of Strange.Direct boltin, quiet operation(they set the gears right)and the torque arm bolts go all the way through.I just got custom axles made for my Strange and they are alot stronger that can take 1.2 60's.
