I recently did a set of the 4.10s in a Nickey Camaro, along with Kooks long tubes, and full exhaust, Magnacharger, and a 3.2 pulley. The gears set up perfectly, with a great pattern. Customer drove for over 1000 miles with no noise or anything. The car makes 590hp at the wheels, so we told him about the weak axles, but never thought the ring and pinion would self destruct. Nickey says they wont do another set, also Randys Ring and Pinion has had the same issues. I say wait till someone else comes up with a set.

I don't mean any disrespect, but seems like these are an example of the shops that just popped up on the 5th gen wagon all of a sudden...otherwise I NEVER heard about them in the 4th gen era...

I'm sure the failures he's referring to are Richmond gear sets for the 2010-12 Camaros. AFAIK, Richmond is the only manufacturer of the 5th gen Camaro IRS gear sets at this time (or at least that is what everyone is buying). So, of course you're going to hear about failures from Richmond. I'm sure improper install and weak *** GM IRS on radials or slicks on heavy *** 5th gens has something to do with it...

Just a thought...

We are not a 5th gen bandwagon shop. Been around since 86'. No offense, but never heard of you either.

Also Richmond is not the only manufacturer of Gear Sets. American Axle also manufacturers gear sets. Sold through LPE and their dealers.

from Richmond:

"Richmond Gear announces the introduction of a 4.11 ratio for the 2010/2011 V8 Camaro. This new ratio is made of 9310 steel and manufactured for street use. This design is the strongest yet for the 2010/2011 Camaro. The part number is 89-0003-1."

Hmmm. Guess Richmond saw the need for better materials.

Also, as mentioned earlier, American Axle, the OEM manufacturer for many GM gearsets, has gears that you can get through LPE. Personally, I prefer the LPE\AA 3.91 set over the Richmond 4.11 for my application. Hope to do it soon.

So with the new hardened sets from Richmond are there problems? The car is just aching for more gear and I want to add some in the near future.

I have one of the first sets of 4.10's that Richmond put out, in my car for over two years and no problems yet. I really think that the install and break in are critical for longevity and noise and problem free life.

Default richmond failure

Working on a 12 SS with SLP installed Richmond gearset. Failed badly...guess I need to see if it's the new design or the old one. I guess they aren't interested in helping customer with any type of warranty, so now it's in my hands. I don't think it was set up properly to begin with either.
